first solo.
tell some of ur expieriences and feeling, that happened druing ur first solo.
hmmm, first solo....lets see....I can remember wondering how many times I would have to touch the wheels down before I actually stayed on the runway! I can also remember after finally settling down on the runway being amazed at how fast I was still going and also amazed at the dramatic effect in direction an accidental slight pressure on the brake can have, and how quickly it resulted in rapid zig-zagging when correcting too aggressively! and finally after all of the zig-zagging was coming to an end, the rapid speed at which I was moving was brought to my attention once again with the sight of the rapidly approaching runway end, I swear the runway shrunk for that circuit!!! All in all it wasn't pretty, but it was all by myself!!!!
In ________ pilots want _____ time.
love : dual
airplanes : solo

Not my best landings ever performance wise, but the overrall great feeling that went with this flight was unforgettable, nor was the cold shower (extra snow) that followed. What's the initiatic ritual in your area? Is there one?

Hey! Hey! Hey! The first rule about first solos is no one talks about first solos!
Seriously! Its the rule around my school, nothing can deflate a student's confidence than some yap bragging about how he went for his first solo so quickly or something. Besides, if anyone here starts telling about the ceremonial "washing of the airplane" I'll have some of my "people" visit you.

I learned to fly in July 1959 with the Air Cadets. Air Cadets had to solo by 12 hrs instruction or they were sent home. After, I instructed and we sent pilots solo around 12 to 15 hrs instruction. Just curious as to the Industry average now or is there. Cost then was $460.00 and the government returned $100.00. Man, that was expensive. I built up time in a Fleet 80 Canuck for $9.00/hr. wet.
The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

The Regina Flying Club had a Fleet that they were trying to sell so they were renting it out till it sold. I was building time for my commercial. They had a fleet of Cessna 140,s then. I remember my first solo quite well. Beautiful summer evening off the "grass area" in Cessna 140 CF-HJM. Instructor, the late Jake Clake. It was a hoot.

Then there was my first piece of a................... Naw, this is the wrong thread for that one.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Ahhh....the first solo. A beautiful day but a busy one in CYXU. Took off behind a Dash 8 and by the time I was ready to land, had to follow another inbound from CYYZ. I can remember landing and taxiing off the active...tower comes on the horn and says: "First solo...well done." What a high! And I'll never forget it!
"Come down, your head is in the sky, feet on the ground...come down."

Remember it well, had to wait for the yahoo skydivers and their yahoo pilot to get out of my way before I could go, too long thinking about it. Then I had to try to decipher whatever it was he said to me through those lovely Cessna overhead speakers in his barely understandable english. I still don't know to be honest. Downwind over the nude beach at the Sollingen quarry, ya gotta love Germany!
