Red Deer Skywings/RDC program
I was wondering if anyone has taken this program or is currently enrolled. Im trying to decide where to get my Aviation Diploma, and wondering how this school is?
Re: Red Deer Skywings/RDC program
I did my private licence with skywings two years ago and had a good time with the instructor I had at the time. Dennis Cooper, the owner made me jump through a bunch of hoops to finish off my written and that bothered me. At the time they were starting their overseas students and I was having trouble booking a plane.. This summer I finished my night rating on my own plane there and Sherry (CFI) was a great help in working around my schedule.. I decided to do my multi rating with them and got all the way to my pre flight test and couldnt book Sherry..They would schedule me and i'd drive up from Calgary and shed be away or busy...Then the plane went down for maintenance and was ready a month later...Really bothered me because they suggested I take an additional 3 hours@$400/hr of training since I hadnt flown the plane in a while...Recently I go in there and I dont get acknowledged, their Chinese students take priority over me trying to finish my multi and im stuck in limbo...Consider Mount Royal

stay away from skywings, highly unproffessional. Mount Royal would be better for the dollars.

Re: Red Deer Skywings/RDC program
I did the college program at Skywings. I really enjoyed it. When I did it, we did things at out own pace which was nice. As long as you have the drive it is easily done. Mount royal books all your flights for you and forces you to fly when you may not want to. I have heard you also have to waer the shirt and tie anywhere on campus and can get in trouble if you are caught without it. Even if you are just in transit to go to the gym. In the past Skywings has been much more affordable. Every school is going to have a downside and yes some time it was frustrating booking things. The extra money for the three hours as mentioned in a previous post is still probably going to be cheaper than the entire program at Mount Royal. The staff were great around there and I had a blast. No regrets from me.
Thanks for getting me to where I am in my career today Skywings! Its been an awesome journey.
PM me if you have any more questions and want some more insight.

Proof positive they turn out robots, not pilots.. I have heard you also have to waer the shirt and tie anywhere on campus and can get in trouble if you are caught without it. Even if you are just in transit to go to the gym.
