Impressions on Moncton Flight College?
Anyone gone through their 4-year degree course, or even their 2-year Aviation Dip. course?
Or anyone who has done modular training with them willing to share their past experiences or knowledge?
What did you think of the program and the flying?

In my book, any school that requires students to wear white shirts and little decorative things on their shoulders is really worth staying away from. Are we learning to fly, or making a fashion statement?

The ocean goes up to 25 C in summer !

what?? what an absurd thing to base a life altering decision on. since when does what you wear affect what kind of pilot you are? or what kind of training is produced? i agree its a little silly, but that is certainly not an indication of poor training (generic statement, not advocating for against MFC in particular.) the majority of flying jobs require you to wear a uniform of some sort, and as with those sorts of jobs that have uniforms, the training programs that exist tend to require similar garb to what the work force commonly wears (police acadamies, dental schools, med schools, business school, etc). also, not all students are required to wear uniforms at MFC.Doc wrote:In my book, any school that requires students to wear white shirts and little decorative things on their shoulders is really worth staying away from. ive been involved in 5 different flt schools either as an employee or student. 2 had uniform requirements, 1 had a strict dress code and 2 had no dress code and in NONE of them did what i wear affect my decision to become involved with them or how i perceived the training.
as for the programs, i think any degree/pilot license combo is generally a waste of money. a diploma is sufficient to get pretty much any flying job in the world (not all, but most), and even without a college diploma youre still gonna be in pretty damn good shape with a highschool and a canadian pilots license. if you have thoughts of getting into the business side of aviation, then consider a degree.

It is not absurd. When one of these shoulder decoration schools dare call me or my fellow instructors unprofessional because we don't have that as our dress code their credibility as a school hits the Jon for me. Not saying that is was MFC but I have been called unprofessional to my face (by management) because of my employers dress-code (clean shaven and short hair to boot), and not by my attitude or otherwise.Tim wrote:what an absurd thing to base a life altering decision on. since when does what you wear affect what kind of pilot you are?
As far as picking a school, go where YOU feel comfortable. If it's MFC then so be it if it is someone else then that's your choice as well.

Thanks for the responses. However, I am more concerned on what is the current state of the aviation market in Canada. Can someone who actually has the knowledge or is currently in the market give us any info on what it is like right now, or in the ever-present future?

Heh. There's a looming pilot shortage, or hadn't you heard?Alpha_Bravo_Charlie wrote:Thanks for the responses. Browse around this site and the employment section and you'll get a bit of an idea. Entry level jobs are hard to come by, but do exist. Most do not pay well. Many are in remote areas. Most will not start with flying, but working a ramp, dispatch, etc. There are good companies and bad. No shortage of entry level pilots, and I suspect there never will be...pay and conditions reflect this reality.
The basic licences/ratings can be done by pretty much anyone, given the time. Finding a real flying job is not the easiest thing in the world. Who you know matters far more than what you know, once the basic requirements are satisfied.
Good luck.

Well I have been in contact with one of their admin representatives, and he stated that a number of companies prefer to hire MFC grads. He didn't however state which companies when asked. Anyone have any knowledge about this? Or is it just a marketing spoof?

I have been trying to understand why anyone would be asked to pay five thousnd dollars in advance for flying training.
The only logical reson I can think of is it is it is programming you to pay in advance to work as a pilot when you start looking for a job flying.

I was a student, then an instructor and have moved on...
the majority of instructors I knew 2+years ago, who had any multi time, are now FO's/Capt's, of the following companies, PAL, Air Georgian, Skylink, EVAS, Thunder, Wasaya, Jazz, Porter.
Former students of mine left at the 200hr mark and are on the flight line at Perimeter.
MFC has a lot of former students around Canada, therefore, by virtue of numbers, they're hireable.
