Any Westjet pilots living in Golden? Does it make for a horrible commute or is it manageable?

Re: Golden, BC
Im not a pilot but that road gets closed all the time and the reroute is through radium.
Re: Golden, BC
My old man used to commute from Golden to Calgary, even bought a Toyota Supra for the trip. Far as I can remember, he was pretty successful, mind you, he had his own plane as a back up if the Highway was closed.
Golden is a great town to live in, worth the commute for sure.

I met a Westjet pilot and his wife while I was snowboarding at Kicking Horse (Golden) a couple years ago. He said they were living in Golden and he was commuting.
Personally, I spent two winter seasons commuting from Golden to Ontario, through Calgary. I never had an issue with the road being closed.

I know of two WestJet pilots living in Golden. I'll bet it's less stressful than many of the other commutes some of our pilots are doing.

I would love to be able to fly for WJ and live there. Used to work in and around the valley in the summers and always thought the place would be great to raise a family.
Do the boys try and bid mostly 5 day pairings with PM check-in and AM check-outs? Is it possible to do that? I guess that would minimize the total number of commutes. Would love to talk to any of the fellas that live there.

I don't bid that, but it's definitely possible to get that sort of schedule. Something to keep in mind though- PM check in and AM check outs are low credit pairings (as are most 5 day pairings). You can always move your schedule around a bit with Flica. I know of a guy who commutes from Trail.Tex North wrote:I would love to be able to fly for WJ and live there. Tex North,
Yes, there is at least one guy there. Don't think you'll find him on a forum...he's not into computers, he's into "the mountain". He's being doing it for a long time.
The good thing about the schedule is that there is options for just about every possible scenario. Doesn't mean you'll always get it, so, at worst you'll drive in the day before or wait out a road closure.
Things are always changing at WJ, so don't have a preset idea of what you need or are looking for. It will change or shift in a few years. The positive/downside (depending on how you see the half full glass) of a successful and growing company.
take care!

Another nice spot within the same range is Invermere. Similar prices and a nice little town too.
