crew rest

Post by rigobgo »

Hi,

I am just looking for a little bit of help, as it turns out I work for a real cheap out fit that is now refusing to pay for our hotel rooms at places where we are on the ground for more than 4 hours. What I wanted to know is that if there were any CARS that mandated them to pay or provide a suitable place to rest? I always thought that if you were on the ground for more than 4 hours you had to get a room to rest. Anyways if anybody can shed some light on the subject I would really appreciate it.

Cheers

Nope inside of a 14 hour duty day your out of luck. Only time they require to provide suitable accommodation is if you are resetting your duty day.

Must be a whale of a place to work.

Is it for a split duty day? That's the only time they would have to supply you a room.

Bring a blanket and a pillow to work. Strip down to your hat and black socks and sleep on the plane until they smarten up.

Or........... they may make it part of an SOP...."all pilots will sleep in hat and black socks on the aircraft during layovers of less than 72 hours"
Most companies charge this to the client anyway, so it is not a cost to the company per se.

Will they be upset when I unbolt several rows of seats so my plastic race car bed fits in the plane?

The contracts I'm familiar with start at 6 hours and only after 6 hours do they spring for a "day" room for all the crew to hang out - personally I stayed with the airplane and ran the apu -- it's funny how stupid operations was -- won't spring for a room but didn't seem to clue in that an apu running was likely costing them far more -- it's the way of the industry -- spend a dollar to save a dime --- just look at what is going on at First Air - traditionally they have done this in the past -- spent cpl million on retraining after all the bumping and calling almost everyone back in 6 months or less -- what would concern me is the evidence of a long term plan there -- that's behind me and now I'm having fun flying a nexgen DC3 -- back to having fun in aviation :smt040 -- yup Cat - Doc --- full circle -- lmfaooooooo
