Confed College Flight Management
Hello,
I'm currently a grade 12 student who has just applied to college. My top two picks were Confed and Sault to become a pilot. I have a low to mid eighties average at the university level. What is usually the average to get into these colleges for the aviation programs? Also, what is the work load like if anyone has attended anyone of these programs (how many hours a week in class/flying and how many hours doing homework and studying)?
Thanks for your information!

IMHO the only reason to go to one of the puppy
mills is the taxpayer-subsidized flight training.
Choose the program that will get you through
fastest. It only takes about a year to go from
zero to CPL, so the less time you waste on
non-essentials the better.
If you can't get taxpayer-subsidized flight
training (I think it's an Ontario-only deal) then
I would just get the ratings at an FTU.

How do you live in the most aviation-socialist province?IMHO the only reason to go to one of the puppy
mills is the taxpayer-subsidized flight training.

Re: Confed College Flight Management
The Confederation program takes two years to complete; the .5 of the 2.5 listed on their websites signifies that there is a summer semester that is done between their first and second year, where students complete their float training. Confed doesn't offer a MIFR license, however, some student wishing to complete it can do so over march break at Cornwall for a fairly decent price.
Sault is a three year program. Unlike Confed, it does offer a MIFR license but does no float training.
If I recall correctly, a mark above 80% would make you a fairly competitive applicant.
Given your high school average, you seem fairly academically inclined. Have you considered going to university instead, while completing your training at an FTU? A degree would offer a far better back-up plan in case you lose your medical or aviation doesn't working out.

I looked at a university degree but it's 4 years usually plus my sciences aren't academic level (all my other courses are though and they said I can't be considered as a result of my sciences). I'm leaning towards Confed though because it is quicker. What would the price be to get my MIFR over the March break? I called the college today and the admin staff were very nice and knowledgeable -- each credit is equal to one hour of schooling per week per semester and acceptance averages ranged from 74% to 87%. So I'm anxious and excited about this program!

I'm currently at Sault College and really enjoying it. I think both schools are really good and it comes down to a matter of preferance. As for marks I don't think you'll have any problem getting into either if you can keep them in the high 70's to 80's. It you have any questions about the Sault feel free to PM me.
Good Luck
