I'll let someone else kick. But I guess the oversimplified answer is that it depends on 1) the amount of funds you have to spend and 2) what will help you the most.

P.S.-- the Twin Otter is not a Type Rating airplane

Ignore above you won't be blackballed.

Which rating depends on experience you have.
With 5000hrs I got a rating on a B747. It cost me $8500USD.
Now I make over $100,000 USD tax free. Prior to doing that flying B1900s was paying me around 45, 000 USD.

That being said, if you have less than 2500 hrs, getting a jet rating is pointless. Go get a King Air, get a job that pays you 45K USD, Sit there for 500 hrs, then go get a Citation or Lear and sit there for a 1000hrs.
Then get a B747 or A330/340 rating and be done with chasing metal.

You should get the rating that the least people hold.

So you're in demand..

I'm sure Cat Driver can help out there . . . I'm just not so sure that there is much demand for people with CV12 Type Ratings these days.

Note that there are different ways type ratings are viewed. In the US, a "B-737" rating covers the -100 all the way to the NG series. Canada has 3 different 737 ratings.

This page may be useful:

you need to consider the world market dude. We are not talking about playing nice in our Canadian sandbox while other countries offer cadet schemes and huge incentives to their pilots. Take care of yourself, look after #1...the only way to the top.
