Looks like a solid negotiating tactic to force Canjet to lower costs.

Time to dangle those 737s. The question is, of course: Who is willing to give up more to get them? My guess is Canjet, since they will basically cease to exist without the TS flying...

Great, now Canjet will lower the bar further and pay their pilots less to keep the work. I'm guessing $75K for a year 1 737 Captain.

Bbgd, I am sure You are kidding. If an B737 operator can only pay 85000$ for 737 capt. ,than that operator should not be in the bussiness of operating 737's but King Airs. I'm am positive that a 737 Captaincy is paid more ,even in Canada. Flying airliners is a career not a hobby.

$85,000 is the starting pay for B737 captains at both Canjet and Sunwing. Sky Regional pays significantly less for Embraer captains. Better stick to King Air flying DGuy

CanJet could be a Canadian Solution as a source of lift for Sunwing... Who knows....If not, certainly a pool of qualified pilots for seasonal work.

Good news for the laid off Air Transat pilots... Hopefully you will see recalls and maybe even some hiring.

I would not be surprised to see Air Transat will use a similar business model to SunWing such as dry leasing more equipment seasonally for the winter.

It's a smart move on Air Transat's part. They need to be profitable all year round. And certainly the competition will be felt on the SunWing side too.

My wish: both find profitability and stability and are able to provide stable employment for their pilots.

NOPE NOT KIDDING... $85K first year and goes up $6K a year... Someone else points put that SWG starts at the same number that being $85K...Difference is that the second year Captain at SWG goes right to $100K...SAD BUT TRUE :

Result: a few years ago, they were willing to fly a L1011 for about 1/3 Of what the AC pilots were making... Let's see if they will do it for 1/3 Of what Rouge will be paying

Thats not even sad. Sad is when your dog dies. Accepting that pay is freakin pathetic. I knew a girl that was a server at the Canadian brewhouse at the airport that makes more than that and pays a lot less in taxes. It puts things in perspective when a server makes more than a captain. You should be embarrassed to accept those wages.

The question than has to be asked. Who's fault is it in accepting those wages? The pilot who takes the pay cut to stay employed or the competition that made paying those wages by your current employer unprofitable.

There's only one pay year that's wrong at Sunwing. First year captains pay. Hopefully being addressed with the new contract. Your not going to find many Sunwing Captains at the bare minimum. Now back to the already scheduled program.

I was just looking at airlinepilotpay and checked out canjet. I didn't realize how pathetic their pay really was. An FO tops out at 5700 a month? ouch! And they don't even get the same vacation as the capts. Aren't the fos just as much a breathing soul as the capts? Hate to say it but KR is taking you to the cleaners. If you don't think you are worth more than that you should think twice about being in this industry.

I always find it weird how people will defend their position even if they know deep down inside they are getting shafted. And thats basically what you are doing. How much OT did it take to get to those numbers btw. I am going right by the pilotpay website. I dont care if you made 120k if you had to fly 30% more to get it. Thats time a person would take away from their family. And how dare you degrade our industry by demeaning our profession. Now the rest of us have to fight tooth and nail to get a decent salary because your pay that you accepted is on the comarison table. On behalf of all the pilots tryng to make this industry better, thanks for that.

So misinformed you all are...

Last year I grossed $141,306 (Per Diems EXcluded) @ year 5 CA scale including some OT with only 487 total flight hours for 2012. Average of 13 days off/month including days I gave up for the OT(scheduled 15 days off, worked 2-3 for OT), and vacation mid July-to mid August. Pretty good by most standards.

Good to see that the ill informed are being informed. Looks to me like the management at Air Transat are attempting to circumvent the unions in an effort to convince their employees that they need to step back to pre "legacy" working conditions if they want a narrow body fleet. What they do, only time will tell!

So when Rouge floods the market with 50 320's and your association is forced to take pay cuts to remain competitive I suppose you will take the higher ground and quit your job as to not degrade our industry by demeaning our profession.
I hear Emirates still pays a decent wage, I'm sure your family will be thrilled by life in Dubai.

This is exactly my point. Not everyone can live or commute out of Calgary. Not everyone can sit right seat on a 737 for 8-10 years or endure 4 years of flat pay on an Embraer based in YYZ. We all have different situations and have to make the best decisions we can with the options that we have.

TNCM i am not trying to insult you. In the original post I was trying to tell you that you as a 737 pilot are worth a hell of a lot more than what airlinepilotpay is posting. You have to agree, if pilotpay.com is accurate, the KR is shafting you big time. Its not like he cant afford to pay you guys more. Is he worried that if he does he cant buy his grandkids that Ferrari for their birthday?
