Those look like good choices to start the operation. I was surprised to YYC - YCD ! Never realized that WS would be configuring the DH4 with 78 seats, that's one more row than the Jazz configuration.
Re: Encore Routes and YYC Based
This news really isn't a surprise since homebase is YYC....and according to past news they should start up ops out of YYZ spring 2014.

Re: Encore Routes and YYC Based
Good god if any place needed relief from Air Canada pricing it was YCD. $150-$400 from YCD to YVR?! Nuts.
Re: Encore Routes and YYC Based
That may be expensive, but remember the market determines prices. I don't imagine there are but a few seats ever sold at the top end in any given month. AC is not in the business of focusing on local traffic,it's all about network connections beyond YVR in this case. This is a bit counter-intuitive and may not make a lot of sense. If it were such a lucrative local point-to-point market you would have had other providers already offering alternatives service. A good example is Pacific Coastal, they pulled out of the local market a number of years ago;it should have been a licence to print money.stickontheice wrote:Good god if any place needed relief from Air Canada pricing it was YCD. $150-$400 from YCD to YVR?! Re: Encore Routes and YYC Based
Anyone's got any thoughts on YYC-YXJ-YYC and how that will affect the YYC-YEG-YXJ-YYE run currently operated by CMA? I know YVR-YXJ-YVR will be directly competitive with Jazz... but I didn't think Encore was looking to compete with CMA's route structure out of YYC, especially since CMA just had some interline/codeshare agreements with WJA not too long ago. Interesting!

I thought CMA flew for Air Canada, so technically WJ is competing on an AC route.loopa wrote:Anyone's got any thoughts on YYC-YXJ-YYC and how that will affect the YYC-YEG-YXJ-YYE run currently operated by CMA? Re: Encore Routes and YYC Based
As Encore grows and its airplanes arrive, it will weaken Porter's sticker price. I still see the end game here resulting in a merger.
Re: Encore Routes and YYC Based
No Air Georgian is doing the regional AC routes now. You can still fly on both AC/WJ and have your flight checked in all the way to your CMA destination which is why I find it interesting that they'd be competing directly with their own code share group. Say you want to go CYYT-CYXJ, you'd fly westjet to YYC or YEG, then CMA to YXJ all under one codeshare. Looks like now they will be taking care of that route themselves and competing with their own codeshare group. Unless I am in the wrong about the codeshare agreement and somebody can shed brighter light on this?TopperHarley wrote:I thought CMA flew for Air Canada, so technically WJ is competing on an AC route.loopa wrote:Anyone's got any thoughts on YYC-YXJ-YYC and how that will affect the YYC-YEG-YXJ-YYE run currently operated by CMA? It's like Air France doing CYVR-LFPG while KLM is operating CYVR-EHAM for an EHAM-LPFG connection. I wonder if that means CMA is starting to see the beginning of the end on its scheduled air service to those destinations? Interesting times ahead for sure!
Re: Encore Routes and YYC Based
CMA and WS have an interline agreement, not a code share.
Re: Encore Routes and YYC Based
If WS does expand Encore into Eastern Canada as expected, then it's certainly going to have some effect on Porter as it will AC. Porter seem to have plateaued in their growth with no new orders for aircraft and no new destinations. There has been no talk of late of an IPO,it certainly leaves room for speculation.WJ700 wrote:As Encore grows and its airplanes arrive, it will weaken Porter's sticker price. Reading the article in the calgary herald today made me laugh. When the spokesperson for WJ said that the pilot's at Encore were paid 10% less than the pilot's at WJ. He was also quoted as saying that the pilot's were paid the same as other lcc. Too bad even the taking heads can't get it right.

Anyone relying on the media to get their facts correct needs their heads examined. Most cub reporters are graduates of 2-3 year community college programs. They are not the brightest sparks on the planet.......flyer 1492 wrote:Reading the article in the calgary herald today made me laugh.
