Book - "Sharpened Edge"

Hello everyone.

I was recently recommended to look for a book called, "Sharpened Edge", by a pilot I know who swears by the series and recommended I give the PPL version a read prior to my test. So of course I went online when I got home to try and find a copy and checked my local library, but to no avail. :?

I was wondering if anyone who has read this book can tell me if its worth the search, and if so, if by any chance they knew who the author was. As i'm sure many pilots in the infancy of their training, finding as much info to help learn the topics, especially the really important ones, sort of becomes an unending quest.

So as always, I appreciate the help and look forward to the replies!

Maybe the book you're looking for is Sharper Edge? It's available from lots of places.

I have no experience with their books.

Hi SharkBait.

I'm not very familiar with the Sharper Edge products, but if you're interested in exam prep material, I would recommend our Private Pilot License: Written Exam Preparation. It contains over 900 questions, as well as an exam information, structure, and strategy section at the beginning. The questions are split into 7 subject-specific exams along with 2 simulated PPAER (mixed subject) exams.

You can read independent reviews HERE at LearnToFly and HERE at Vera Teschow's blog.

Cheers,
Steve

When I hear the "Sharpened Edge" I simply am
not capable of NOT thinking of:

He flew through the air. That was aviation-related. sorta

Hi SharkBait,

If I were to recommend any book for PPL exam prep is a book called "Canadian Private Pilot Answer Guide"..... Very similar lay out to Steve's recommendation, contains about 600 questions of all the necessary topics needed for a Transport Canada Private written exam, from Air Law to Navigation and Theory of Flight. These questions are derived directly from old Transport Canada exams. As one who has used the Answer Guide's for both my PPL and CPL written exams, I can speak first hand that my PPL had 10 questions(CPL had 5) that were written out verbatim right out of the Answer Guide. That being said, the Answer guide also gives references and in which publication to look up the answer in. For example, for an Air Law question, the reference would refer to a certain CARs publication, or a navigation problem will refer to a FTGU reference.

IMHO, the Answer Guide is one of the best publications I've come across for exam prep. Not to mention the fact that a lot of flying schools I have seen around the local Edmonton area seems to carry it.

Best of luck!
