Morgan's revenge ....

Post by URC »

Cherry picking WestJets gravy runs, it will be interesting to see how this works out. First flight on the 19th, Calgary to Las Vegas, 39 booked (81 needed). WestJet running 2 B737-800's (348 seats) are already sold out on the 19th.

Yup pretty sure thats a good indication. Seems like suicide to go into that market against WJ. Seems futile to me.

Doesn't seem like such a bad plan to me....

Novel idea....
Low risk when you don't have to go if you do not sell the minimum amount of seats. Hope they can make a success of it!

Honestly though, who has the time to gamble on a "possible" departure date?

Certainly not a conventional way of marketing and I would not be one of them that would have the time to gamble on a "possible" departure that is for sure... But who knows. Might help generate the odd ad hoc charter trip once in awhile for the audience they are trying to reach.

I have nothing but respect for Tim Morgan but this just reeks of desperation.

I hope I'm wrong.

I think its a great idea. Heck why not try it. Think outside the box. If aircraft and crew are available. If they can keep the price as low as possible people will book it, although most will probably wait til the last week or so to make a decision.

Don't think it's desperation at all. The three planes are busy all week! Why not come up with something new and exciting for travellers who are flexible. Truth is we would all love to fly direct on days that we actually want to fly for a reasonable price! I'll spread the word and support reasonable airfares!

Brilliant idea.

Using airplanes which otherwise stand idle, offering an attractive fare to very elastic passengers, guaranteeing a profit . . . Even the crews will probably fancy a change of scenery with a LAS weekend layover.

Basically, it is a win-win situation offering this charter. Competing against Westjet? Well, I can't quite see the argument there.

Here's a couple news articles on this subject:

Looks like a fellow named Roger is organizing this, not Mr. Morgan. Seems like a good idea to me regardless!

The only reason they are busy is because Canadian North is giving them business. That could tank if oil prices fall. Suncor just shelved the Voyager oil sands project. But if oil prices drop that could be good for them, good for everybody.

Most of their flying is not for CDN North. yes a small portion, but most is their own contracts with Suncor, Husky, and the latest addition, AT.
I wish them best of luck. As soon as this spreads, the planes will fill up quickly with those looking for a actual deal on flights for a weekend away!

I guess it's like traveling standby... just can't really buy tickets for a show, and hopefully the hotel is refundable.
Novel idea for sure.

First flight has reached the "jumping point". It is a go. Sold enough seats to run the charter! Changed the dates to a Thurs-Sun as most people would have preferred. Good luck! Looking forward to some charters out of Edmonton!

Thursday to Sunday have typically been in high demand over the years for Charter operators to Las Vegas.

Good to see the first flight go. Hopefully many more to come!

I agree, they're probably not much competition for WJ because their success is sort of based on westjet's success of same route (already full seats).
