Otter (Twotter) C-FGQK, information on where and when

Post by Billie T. »

Hello Everyone,

I'm back again with a request for information on the attached photos of an Otter (Twotter) C-FGQK. The letters on the side of the plane read SURVAIR.

I am having no luck finding information under either C-FGQK or SURVAIR.

I know that the plane was "probably" being flown by the late Merv Langille of Nova Scotia. However, no one in his family knows where or when the photo was taken. "Bobo" offered an opinion that this type of Otter was often called a "Twotter."

In addition, you'll notice that the aircraft has a few "dents" an "wrinkles" in it. Bobo thought that the front landing wheel and arm may have broken on landing.

Does anyone know when and where this photo may have been taken, and do you have any information on what caused the damage to the aircraft.

Thank you everyone in advance for all your help.

Looks like the accident was on the Belcher Islands in June of 1974. Power loss during take off.

I have some time on that plane when it was a skydiver machine, had no idea it had damage history like that. It flew pretty good though.

You may be aware, but if not..."Twotter" is slang for twin otter, the DHC-6. It is used to distinguish it from the DHC-3 Otter.
