Re: Porter purchase?
I think it would make more sense for Air Canada. They could lease the Q400's to Sky or Jazz, whoever is cheaper. They already have a presence at the island too.

Re: Porter purchase?
Why would we want to buy someone else's airline? We already have our own
Besides... we don't want to go into the Island, it wouldn't fit into our network.
It looks like Deluce has a plan... let him raise the money and buy the jets. Once they expand the runway (LMAO) we could just fly our own 737's in there ourselves if it were that important to us.
Keep calm and carry on

Very interesting article. I think it makes a lot of sense for WJ to acquire Porter. They have the cash, and there are synergies between the two companies:
- Both operate the Q400, which will keep operating costs down.
- An acquisition like this would rapidly increase the market penetration of the WJ Encore in the Eastern market which is crucial in the early stages of a startup. This will also compliment WJ push east as they open up bases in TO etc.
Re: Porter purchase?
And theeeennnn, Saretsky can say,"well we didn't plan on Encore flying jets cheaper than you, but what can we do, Porter had them already when we bought them, it's for the greater good of the company though, suck it up buttercup"
Of course all the above is make believe and would never ever happen, would it.

Re: Porter purchase?
This would be great! It would finally give Westjet a presence in the east which they cannot seem to estabilsh. Would make the transition to operating a new aircraft a little more easier. And finally it would be less competition. JUST DO IT!!!!!

Re: Porter purchase?
Why buy Porter when you can lease your own airplanes with 25% cheaper labour.
Re: Porter purchase?
Because Westjet is missin out on the Eastern triangle bigtime!!!! When they buy porter and the terminal that comes along with it, they'll be raking it in!!!!!
Re: Porter purchase?
YTZ does not 'feed' the WJ hub and network at YYZ so it is of little value other than O&D traffic.johnkruk wrote:Because Westjet is missin out on the Eastern triangle bigtime!!!! When they buy porter and the terminal that comes along with it, they'll be raking it in!!!!!
The ship has sailed on any possible WJ acquisition of Porter. If the deal had been consummated, a significant portion of the YTZ capacity would have been moved to YYZ regardless.
WJ Encore is a much bigger threat to Porter than Porter is to WJ.

Sounds more like you're a porter pilot wanting an easy way into WestJet.

Re: Porter purchase?
Would it be at all be beneficial for a Porter pilot to be integrated into Encore if Porter were bought?
