So it will cost 5, 10 or 15 dollars more to fly depending where you need to go in Canada or the states.
It might affect the leisure travellers a bit, but I think the ticket prices have to go up a lot more than that before people decide to drive or take Greyhound across the country. I am certainly not going to stop seeing family or friends over $20.

I don't see a downward trend...do you....fuel surcharges will keep going up...and 20 bucks is still 20 bucks...better in my pocket...

Agreed, for instance with all the focus on low cost carriers etc it has become a race to the bottom. People will pay a fair rate for service. It would only be a couple of bucks on each ticket to start paying their people better, but with the razor thin margins that low cost has developed it will end up turning aviation into the new fast food employer. It's sad when you can make almost as much working for Mc Donalds as you can in customer care at an airline.

Getting back to the original thread topic...this is an interesting read....

As a business, any business, they have to be able to cover their costs and hopefully make a profit. For too long this hasn't been happening in the airline industry though. When the cost of any input such as maintenance, landing fees, insurance or anything else goes up you can only expect them to pass it on to the consumer. Only difference is that these costs aren't as visible as a fuel surcharge, and everyone likes to bitch about the price of oil.
