Col Chris Hadfield for the Order of Canada
I've sent off letters to the PMO as well my MP and added a page to FB.
https://www.facebook.com/ColChrisHadfie ... erOfCanada
I believe that we should honour Col Chris Hadfield with the Order of Canada
If you agree, send a letter of to the PMO, your MP, like the FB page and encourage others to do the same so that we can honour this great Canadian and tell him how proud of him we are!

I think you can nominate him yourself:

Form is here: http://www.gg.ca/pdf/OCnomination2009.pdf

Any person or group is welcome to nominate a deserving individual as candidate for appointment to the Order of Canada... Nominations should be accompanied by biographical notes detailing the career and achievements of the nominee. It is helpful to include the names of persons who would support the nomination and who could provide information about why the individual deserves the honour... All Canadians are eligible for the Order of Canada, with the exception of federal and provincial politicians and judges while in office. There are no posthumous appointments. Officers and Members may be elevated within the Order in recognition of further achievement, based on continued exceptional or extraordinary service to Canada. Usually, promotions are considered five years after the first appointment.

Re: Col Chris Hadfield for the Order of Canada
I am very happy to report that I received a letter today from the Governor Generals Office/Order of Canada Program Analyst basically saying that Col Chris Hadfield's nomination is in the works. Apparently they need to do extensive checking........their words, their system, etc, etc.
Long story short his name has been brought forward a few times and the process has been started, no idea how long of a process it is, but at least its in the works and hopefully we can honour this man who has brought so much pride to so many of us.

Actually, his rank is Commander, not Colonel. He is active duty with the CSA and retired from the RCAF.slowstream wrote:

Re: Col Chris Hadfield for the Order of Canada
I second all the commentary. This gentleman should be recognized as a Canadian Hero for his services........

Re: Col Chris Hadfield for the Order of Canada
In addition to the above (and related to earlier comments about letter-writing), it should be noted that the Order of Canada is the responsibility of the Governor General and a committee, not elected officials. In fact, I do not believe there is an elected official involved in the process. Letter-writing will probably not help.slowstream wrote:I am very happy to report that I received a letter today from the Governor Generals Office/Order of Canada Program Analyst basically saying that Col Chris Hadfield's nomination is in the works. That said, even if Cmdr. Hadfield is already under consideration, further nominations cannot hurt. Remember that the Order's population is limited either by annual issuance and/or total population, so the process for appointment to the Order can seem frustratingly long, but it is part of the distinction.
Good luck and happy nominating!

Re: Col Chris Hadfield for the Order of Canada
Not that I know this for sure...only speculation, but isn't "Commander" a title rather than a rank. As in Commander of the ISS. All I see on the CSA is "astronaut" and "astronaut candidate". I would suggest his rank is Col (Ret). Then again, I could be wrong...FlyGy wrote:Actually, his rank is Commander, not Colonel. To the best of my knowledge CSA is not a paramilitary organization, which means that you are correct Cap'n P8.Cap'n P8 wrote: Not that I know this for sure...only speculation, but isn't "Commander" a title rather than a rank. Re: Col Chris Hadfield for the Order of Canada
Of course, if the astronaut is US Navy or Coast Guard...he could have both the title and rank of Commander. Or in this case Captain (N) (Ret'd).
