AME at New Zealand
Hi there,
Was just wondering if any Canadian AMEs have the experience working in New Zealand.
Which company did you work for and what was it like?
If you don't mind sharing your experience that would be awesome.
Cheers!

Aircraft Maintenance Engineers at large,
If you call Kenn Borek in CYYC, the folks have engineer/pilot types going through to southern climbs. Give them a call at 1-403-291-3300, Canada. Another Canadian northern, would be Athabasca Airways/La Ronge Aviation, AKA, Transwestair. Same type of country, no @#$!-ups. Get home. I would imagine than Canadian Aviation Regs should explain all questions relevant to IATA. There is a critical shortage of qualified field engineers in this country, backed by immigration policy, not a demand for, visitors. Get your ass up here, as you might find your self fighting forest fires back in that little island, refueling.
big aviation world on a small aircraft. Be well, with beer
Ice just leaving the lake. DHC-6, DHC-3T, DHC-2 and C-185 on floats, just now.
La Ronge, Saskatchewan, Canada.
See you in the fall.
SMcL.

Did you even read the post? Someone is asking what its like to work in NZ. I personaly only know 2 AMEs who have worked there, one went down 30 yrs ago and hasn't come back, the other had his own business for a while on GA but couldn't make a go of it.

haha...must be exposure to all that 100LL, nerve damage seems well on its way
Dude, you should consider switching to milk instead of all that beer, may be able to save few brain cells yet.
Good luck in Saskatchewan

No kidding, what a rambling post, almost like a mild stroke right at the keyboard.haha...must be exposure to all that 100LL, nerve damage seems well on its way
But about New Zealand, I know no one in aviation there, just a friend who has a construction company there. He likes being there, but says the taxes are phukked, and there is some kind of uncertanty with banks right now similar to cyprus. Do some research on that, just passed on info. oh yeah, active volcanos, that was the other thing but a very nice place otherwise and you can visit the Shire.

Re: AME at New Zealand
I worked there from 2005 - 2006. People were great. Unfortunately the wages were low and the cost of living was high. Most of the Kiwi's I worked with eventually ended up in Australia due to the opportunities and the higher wages.

Back post 911 I ended up at Airnz, I was an Licenced AME (LAME) at Airnz, Crew chief, line maintenance, 6 days on/ 3days off shift, and the pay scale was 60k (including any extras).
I do believe it has risen to some where in the mid to high 80k range now.
Cost of 2 litres of milk $6.00.
Petrol is in the $2.20 per litre range.
Second hand cars are priced thru the roof. rust is a big issue there.
If you are living in Canada right now, the prices you will see in New Zealand are double of what you experience now.(unless you are living up north of yellowknife)
Any company who are interested in you moving there will talk about the outdoors life style and how great it is with all the options of stuff to do. What they do not tell you is you will be at work all the time and not experiencing the outdoors.
Anywhere in NZ is great to live. Auckland has the biggest population portion of the country, emissions on cars is not tested there, so you will smell a bit of a shock when driving around. NZ is very similar to Canada on a small scale, you will like it.
All of the people who I have started out in Aviation in NZ 20+ yrs ago, only about 5 are back in NZ after travelling the world. The vast majority are still spread to the 4 corners, and still in aviation!
But be prepared for the price shock.
Dont worry about the people.
