People spend all kinds of training time and money on things like storm scopes, and what not to avoid thunder storms. Then some idiot who is probably not a pilot comes up with hte brilliant idea of, lets fly into one of these things to see what its like in there?

Well Duh!

I have inadvertantly flown through the center of a level 4 and have determined that I would never EVER want to experience that again. That was 40 seconds of my life that I won't forget.

You were not there, it was f__king intense. Maybe if a had a decent A/C with a decent weather radar, actually I still would have not flown threw it. There's always another day. Beer tasted pretty good that night In Medicine Lodge. Friendly people.

I wouldn't fly anywhere near a TS without a wx radar. The storms in Argentina often were well over 60 dbz with tops over 60,000 ft. With a wx radar flight in and around a TS can be done very safely even within close proximity to the core of some of these monsters.

The top seeding was generally done within meters of the main core. The base seeding was normally done very close to the visible self in an area of steady updrafts around 500-900 fpm.

Believe it or not, the highest tops I have seen is 75 000' just off land in the Gulf of Mexico. We were cruising at about 410 and it still felt just like I was standing at the base of the Calgary Tower with my neck tilted back looking up to see the top.

I went by Wichita on my way to Tulsa @ FL450. We went by a monster that was reported to be 15,000 above us. Pretty to look at because we could avoid visualy. Tuned up MidContenant ATIS and they were abandoning the tower because of hail

The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.
