I was in Trenton (AMDU, formerly 6RD) at the time the CF-101s were brought in, some were actually used for the Battle Damage and Repair course. They purged them of fluids, and flammables, usable parts then charges were placed on them in different locations. The students were then trained to repair the damage using 'field' methods ie. cracked canopy....wire stitch and seal with RTV sealant. I recall one case where they missed purging one fuel line and the charge set off a larger explosion, breaking the back of the aircraft.
I liked watching the Voodoos as they had a hard ignition on the ABs - boom...boom. Another time I was doing circuits in the club 172 and was told to "immediate right turn, Voodoo taking off behind you." I cranked hard and fast and in time to see him going near vertical through my altitude....yup, Trenton was fun times.
