MAX!
WestJet Airlines Ltd. has signed a letter of intent to buy 65 of Boeing Co.’s new 737 MAX single-aisle planes for $6.3-billion (U.S.) at current list prices.
The Calgary-based low-cost airline said Thursday that delivery of the new fleet is scheduled to start in September, 2017.
The proposed order is for 40 737 MAX 8, and 25 737 MAX 7, aircraft.
Excellent news and very exciting.

Re: MAX!
Betting on status quo in the Canadian airline industry over a 7-10 year window is a pretty risky bet, especially when a number of operators have been consistently unable to produce annual operating profits....

Re: MAX!
As fuel prices remain high, and may rise, the Max is an impressive machine. 16% lower fuel burn than the current A320, 4% less than the Neo. It's expected to meet or beat range projections than the Neo. There are more than 1,400 on order. If you want one, best to order sooner rather than later.
Depending on deliveries, WS maintains a a fresh young fleet with more cost effective equipment. Given the the lag from order to putting on the line, when is the optimum time to do this?
Common fleet type. Similar cockpits. No aging fleet maintenance concerns. Excellent dispatch reliability. Of course no one can predict the future. But I think this represents good planning.

You see back in the 90's there was thing that came out called AUTO.
Doesn't sound like its going to happen. Sounds like its going to be a common type to the NG with just a differences course. Oh well, still gonna be pretty nice ride.

Re: MAX!
Anyone know what the top end speed of the Max will be? See some articles saying it'll cruise at .79 mach. Would be nice to be going a bit faster than that. Although in these days of fuel savings I would imagine that we won't be anyways.
Re: MAX!
Short stage lengths (ie in and out of YMM) mean typically lower altitudes, which means lower cruise speeds for a given cost index. Anything above 360-370 and cruise will be .76+. Get slowed down above that altitude it's probably some other reason.
