Re: Chorus to Purchase Sky Regional
If only they would buy Kraft so we could all get KD at a discounted price..
Re: Chorus to Purchase Sky Regional
There is nothing to buy at SKY. There are no assets, just an operating certificate and a CPA with about 31 months left at an unusually low margin for a real company who's intent would traditionally be to generate a meaningful profit on behalf of the owners/investors. This metric probably does not apply as there is no cost of capital for SKY since AC foots 100% of the bills on a virtual guaranteed no loss basis.
SKY is a stalking horse with a single corporate purpose. Nothing more.

Rudder.
How do you know there is only 31 months left on their CPA?
Is that public info?

Re: Chorus to Purchase Sky Regional
It's my impression that the CPA will not, in all likelyhood, be renewed and that Jazz must somehow start formulating a survival plan. We can anticipate the closer this gets to becoming a reality, the more desperate and vocal the employee group will get.
The question WRT the possible takeover of Sky Regional remains: Will the list be dovetail, or DOH? I would imagine dovetail would create the least amount of havoc.

Re: Chorus to Purchase Sky Regional
Sky Regional was created by Air Canada to essentially gut their own as well as Jazz WAWCON. It is highly unlikely that there will ever be any acquisition of SR by CHR as that would defeat the whole purpose. Further, if you look into the fine print of these CPA agreements, there is clear language that states that acquisition of a CPA carrier does not imply that you are entitled to a continued business relationship - in other words, the CPA is terminated.Impact wrote:It's my impression that the CPA will not, in all likelyhood, be renewed and that Jazz must somehow start formulating a survival plan. Jazz is not going to disappear any more than SkyRegional. I expect that SR will grow a little more, Jazz will contract and AC will entertain business relationships with any party that can deliver at the lowest cost.
Re: Chorus to Purchase Sky Regional
And for all the small markets out east in particular, I don't see how Sky regional could make it economically sound to come in with a Q400, when you barely fill 20 seats with a Dash 8-100...Sky regional might grab some more routes, but eventually it will all come to a standstill. They just acquired their last E170, there's not much more left for growth unless they acquire their own fins..

Re: Chorus to Purchase Sky Regional
Air Canada wants more, not less Tier 2 Regional carriers so that they can play each other off one another. Each entity will try to uncut the other to get work resulting in a steady reduction in CPA costs to Air Canada. Air Canada is just following the US airline play book.
Unfortunately the greatest variable between Tier 2 operators is employee WAWCON's. This Darwinian selection process is why Jet FO's at American regional airlines make 17 K a year.
Sadly I can tell you what the Jazz pilot contract is going to look like after the CPA becomes amendable. Take Sky Regionals package and subtract 10 %

Re: Chorus to Purchase Sky Regional
Speaking of which, the CPA between Jazz and mainline is due in 2020 right? Plus Air Canada has the right to adjust the block hours it gives to Jazz every 6 months, hence the reduction in block hours we saw last month?
Re: Chorus to Purchase Sky Regional
If Jazz is losing block hours who are they giving those hours to?
Is Sky Regional or Georgian getting them?
Who's stealing Jazz's block hours?

But seriously. How about some substantiated info next time?
Re: Chorus to Purchase Sky Regional
So do you think they are going to go after Jazz's CPA?
This doesn't look too good For the worker bees at Jazz. Well hopefully they can get a job at Georgian. It will be pretty weird though considering a lot of pilots left Georgian to go to Jazz.
Re: Chorus to Purchase Sky Regional
This would never happen. But if it did Scabs go to BOTL. Period.
Re: Chorus to Purchase Sky Regional
Don't be ridiculous. Nothing is BOTL anymore. Ratio or DOH will be the only way things are done from here on in.BingBong wrote:This would never happen. But if it did Scabs go to BOTL. Period.
BTW, what exactly do you mean by "scabs"?

Re: Chorus to Purchase Sky Regional
For those of you not paying attention...
Air Canada has observed how things are done in the States and thought, "What a great idea!"
The only way to stop this is for the bargaining units of each airline (regional and mainline) to get together and agree on a "floor" for WAWCON.
If this does not happen then the regionals and eventually mainline will see the steady decline in their contracts. It truly is as simple as that.
Apparently talks between the regionals in the US have started. Hopefully it won't take as long to have that meaningful conversation up here...

Re: Chorus to Purchase Sky Regional
You're 100% on with this one. But do you really see the bargaining groups of each airline agreeing on this "floor" anytime soon? I think the US system is approaching quicker than any of the union groups can keep up with.Flying Low wrote:
