You know what? In this day and age, if you do not have an internet presence in some which way shape or form (Facebook, instagram, pinterest, twitter, whatever) while looking for work or somewhat established in your career, people are going to wonder why. They are going to think you ARE trying to hide something or that you are socially inept, or a derelict etc. Now, I know you seem to think this is all devils play, but if you're a reasonable human bean, you should know better then to have 1) open privacy status 2) have the boss as a 'friend' 3) post debaucherous photos all over Facebook. As such, if you are 'that guy' you probably would get turfed from most jobs anyways. dont think thats the case? I'll go find the study we recently reviewed in one of my business management courses that points to people NOT being hired for 'hiding' from the web/employers.Big Pistons Forever wrote:My 02 cents worth
If you are currently working as a commercial pilot and are not about to retire, then there are 2 things you IMO should not do
1) Have a face book page. If you have to have a face book page be very, very, very, careful what pictures get posted on it and what comments are saved.
2) Provide your real name on Avcanada.
I'm not criticizing your choice to use your real name because that's totally up to you, but suggesting a lack of guts for people who choose not to is unreasonable. Internet anonymity is never a bad idea and the terrain is littered with people who wish that they had remained anonymous. And even though some people may think they've figured out who someone is they never know for sure unless that person acknowledges it.BobBates wrote:Anybody else with the guts?

Indeed. Personally I would strongly advise that one not openly post their real name, and especially not their license number as I've seen some do in the past. If I was an evil person, I could think of a lot of ways to cause a person trouble armed with those two bits of correlating info.Internet anonymity is never a bad idea and the terrain is littered with people who wish that they had remained anonymous.

I'm Shane. I stand by every single thing I have ever posted. I mean, mostly. I mean, except for the stuff I apologized for afterwards. And probably a bunch of other things I should have apologized for. But I have never posted pictures of myself whilst intoxicated, nor have I posted pics of anything umm south of the Equator, so here's hoping this hasn't ruined my chances of running for PM in the next erection.
