David Elias, Search & Rescue Armed Forces, says they're searching by land, water & air
A search is underway on and around Georgian Bay near Midland for a missing plane with one man on board.
Search and Rescue Armed Forces is working with the OPP in co-ordinating the search in the air, on the water and on the ground at the north end of Tiny Township.
Public Affairs Officer David Elias tells Bayshore Broadcasting News there are about 30 personnel involved in the search.
Elias says they received a call around 8:30 PM on Thursday about an overdue plane that was suppose to be in Owen Sound around 8 PM.
A single engine Cessna plane left Cornwall around 5 PM on Thursday.
The identify of the male pilot is unknown.
Elias confirms they began their search Thursday night and they added more resources to the search today.
Elias confirms a Hercules aircraft, a Griffin helicopter and a Coast Guard helicopter as well as two aircraft from the Civil Air Search and Rescue are searching from the air.
Elias also confirms there are two OPP vessels and Coast Guard vessels in the water as well as OPP officers on the ground and on ATVs searching the Midland area.
Elias tells Bayshore Broadcasting News they have focused on the Midland area because of clues received from the pilot's cellphone company.
Anyone who may have seen this aircraft or know of the pilots whereabouts is asked to contact the OPP Communication Centre at 1-888-310-1122.

CORNWALL, Ontario – The debris field of an aircraft missing in the Midland, Ontario area has been found on the shores of Georgian Bay.
The aircraft had taken off from Cornwall Thursday.
Reports to the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Trenton led search crews to the Nottawasaga Bay area on Sprat Point where they confirmed the debris belonged to the missing aircraft. Search coordinators are in the process of handing the case over to the OPP.
The aircraft, a Cessna 182, had been reported missing Thursday when it failed to arrive in Owen Sound. Weather at the time of the flight was poor.
A lone male pilot was at the controls of the plane.
Frank Prevost, chair of the Cornwall Regional Airport Commission, said in an interview the pilot is believed to be from Owen Sound.
"It's my knowledge he never even got out of the plane when he landed here," said Prevost.
The pilot left Cornwall at 5:10 p.m. and was to arrive at the Billy Bishop airport around 8 p.m.
Search efforts were led by the Royal Canadian Air Force supported by the Canadian Coast Guard, OPP ground and water units as well as volunteers with the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association and Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary.
The missing aircraft had an Electronic Locator Transmitter of the 121.5 Mhz variety that was not detected in the crash. It left Cornwall at 5:10 pm local time and was scheduled to arrive in Owen Sound at 7:55 pm local time. At 8:35 p.m. on Thursday Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Trenton received a report from the Flight Information Centre in London, Ontario that the aircraft was overdue.
In Canada, SAR is a coordinated response bringing all possible assets to bear to save the lives of people lost or injured, often in remote and dangerous locations. While the Canadian Armed Forces, with the Canadian Coast Guard, coordinates the overall response, it is not necessarily the primary responder to a SAR event - air and marine resources can come from a spectrum of government and volunteer organizations.

When the wind is blowing -- (and am trying not to speculate here)
-- from the northwest -- as it has been lately fairly strongly in the afternoon and evenings ---
That area can be horrible for lake effect snow and rain showers, hard IFR, visibility icing, ect. Nasty area to try and fly this time of year. Just saying without knowing anything about this.

Re: Search near Midland
At that time the weather was very poor. Snow, rain and most likely icing.

Re: Search near Midland
On my way home from work on that day I was driving passed Line 7 near Lake Simcoe Regional on highway 11. The weather was atrocious. Roads were slick and a squall line was pushing through limiting visibility quite a bit. I'm sure there was no doubt some weather involved in the accident.

Re: Search near Midland
Pilot is from Owen Sound, aircraft C182P C-FIMQ.
Sorry meant C-FIMQ (not C-GIMQ which is a S-76A Chopper!!)

I believe that the correct registration would be C-FIMQ.bizjets101 wrote:Pilot is from Owen Sound, aircraft C182P C-GIMQ.

At this time of year, rather nasty , isloated, "showers", cells of ice pellets, rain, snow mixed, come in off georgian bay and lake huron. In daylight they are often something you can circumnavigate. Night means you dont see them till you are in them. They are often too low to show on radar topping 5 to 9 thousand feet. Warm water, cold air is the recipe. best sniff around them in daylight.
Re: Search near Midland - November 2013
Does anyone know if they have found this aircraft yet?
