cessna 180 idea?????
Hello
I am looking at a 1966 cessna 180, it had a little damage when it landed and it nosed down first - prop strike then as it cam back down bent the fuselage a bit in the rear. The engine is timed out and the prop junk. The rear fuselage has been repaired by an ame. Should I be worried about this a/c and what should I pay? hours on the a/c are 5800hrs, paint 3-4 years old other than repaired area new.

not a lot of info there, tt engine/prop, was the fuselage jigged, engine mount rebuilt/magnafluxed, interior/exterior, radios, etc....... I would look at the airplane bluebook, or search online for the same bird, and offer 25% less, and then negotiate. most cessna's need a rebuild around 5k to tighten up loose rivets, rejig doors etc.....

There's a hunk of junk Nissan Skyline across the road from me. I'll talk to the owner and see if I can get you two in touch so you can take it off of his hands for a song and use it as a trade for the this 180... That seems fair to me.
I'm not sure what your plan is with this airplane, but MY plan would be to fly it. All of those things stack against the idea of me flying it... Go to Controller.com or barnstormers and you can find dozens upon dozens of potential deals with less hangups that will keep your mind at ease and keep the flying as good clean family fun!
Take care!

Re: cessna 180 idea?????
How long ago did this occurrence happen? In terms of years and hours flown since repair?
You'll find that most 180/185's have some kind of damage history if you've access to the logs.
In today's market you'll find undervalued airplanes which in this aircraft class make a past occurrence's price point a moot one.
If you can find one without any damage history... Well it's either a real nice cream puff or an outright lie.
All the best,
TPC

Thanks for the input, the ttsn is 5600 hours and the engine time is 1400. The plane had been damaged in the spring and has been repaired but still needs the engine and prop. Is $60 x too much. It also comes with a set of 2870's and pk3500 floats. Any help would be great

Im assuming the eng and prop are junk, so the times for those dont matter. You ll need to figure on say, 30 K for a new eng, plus the prop. Not sure what that will cost. Price it all out, plus install, plus a good margin for stuff that will crop up....an extra day or two in the shop ads up into thousands of dollars fast.
Then figure out what a decent 180 with a low time engine and floats goes for....Somewhere in the 100-110K range id say...minus what you ll spend on all the stuff above, and thats what its worth to you.
IF, and its a big if, its been repaired properly, is straight and sound, and the paperwork is in order. A good ame that you trust and use, preferably the one who will be working on it if you buy it, should do a very complete pre purchase for you. Dont comit to anything till this is done and the answers are all positive.
You could possibly get into a nice aircraft with a new eng and no surprises if your carefull. Jump in too fast and you could have a too expencive crooked flying plane that will keep costing you money for years.
Sounds kinda scary to me to tell the truth. Take your time. There are plenty out there to choose from.

This is great advice!
The prop cost should run around 7-8K depending.
Take your time and have a good look around. It`s a buyers market and you should be able to find one that doesn't require all this work...and for a good price.
Good luck with your search.

Thanks
I think I will keep looking, if you know of any good 180's let me know.

Re: cessna 180 idea?????
My cousin had a nice C180 for sale a couple of years ago. It had a new prop ($10K), a half time engine, new paint, new interior, and a new (spartan) panel. Plus two sets of floats and one set of straight skis. I don't know if he sold it. It was a 1959 model which I have flown lots of. I flew this particular airplane before the paint job and it performed well. The wing was smooth not to many "pilot asses" sliding across during refueling...
I don't have a clue how many hours on the airframe. I flew it last in 1998. It is in his hanger.
I ended up buying a Mooney which was more useful for me (being land-locked). If you are interested I could give him a call. PM me.

Re: cessna 180 idea?????
I ll sell mine for a bit more than its worth any day. Which might be a common theme for 180s....
Re: cessna 180 idea?????
Haha! I've got an overpriced Mooney for sale too. I keep adding stuff like new radios and nobody wants to buy it. I guess I'll just have to keep on flyin' eh?
