FAR Part 23

Post by Colonel Sanders »

http://generalaviationnews.com/2013/12/ ... ation-act/
On Nov. 27, President Barack Obama signed into law the Small Plane Revitalization Act, a bill that requires the FAA to adopt new certification regulations that should reduce the cost of aircraft and avionics upgrades.

The Small Airplane Revitalization Act (SARA) gives the FAA until Dec. 31, 2015, to adopt changes to the Federal Aviation Regulation Part 23, which governs the certification of many general aviation aircraft.

Manufacturers say that a streamlined Part 23 will reduce certification costs and the price of new aircraft. The changes should also reduce the certification cost and price of modifications of all types, from avionics to airbags and seats to restraints, making it more affordable for owners to install modern safety equipment in older aircraft.

I would buy an airplane, just so I can put "modern" air bags in said airplane. I think a decent C150 with one of those really old, fall apart glove box areas would be quite fitting, that or the very small yoke could certainly hold one. Wonderful.
Although if this passes, and comes to fruition, it honestly could be a good thing, right?

They want to be just like Canader. Free health care and airplanes well maintained by their owners. It's a utopia here and they hope to make their country more like it. Who can blame them huh?

I envision the airbags being a feature incorporated into the newly affordable modern dual glass panel package that will become available to install in your $14,500 C150.

It will be interesting to see if this applies to aircraft that were certified under CAR Part 3 such as the Cessna 172 & 150.

My 1980 172N was certified under part 3, my 1979 PA-38 is part 23.
