NASA is being sued

Post by JBI »

From MSN

MOSCOW (AP) - NASA's mission that sent a space probe smashing into a comet raised more than cosmic dust - it also brought a lawsuit from a Russian astrologer.

Marina Bai has sued the U.S. space agency, claiming the Deep Impact probe that punched a crater into the comet Tempel 1 late Sunday "ruins the natural balance of forces in the universe," the newspaper Izvestia reported Tuesday. A Moscow court has postponed hearings on the case until late July, the paper said.

The probe's comet crash sent up a cloud of debris that scientists hope to examine to learn how the solar system was formed.

Bai is seeking damages totalling 8.7 billion rubles ($300 million US) - the approximate equivalent of the mission's cost - for her "moral sufferings," Izvestia said, quoting her lawyer Alexander Molokhov. She earlier told the paper that the experiment would "deform her horoscope."

NASA representatives in Russia could not immediately be reached for comment.

Scientists say the crash did not significantly alter the comet's orbit around the sun and said the experiment does not pose any danger to Earth.

I still can't believe I am saying this....but I agree with S&J. Americans are so full of themselves, it's sickening. For all we know they could have changed the course of the thing. For the good or bad, I don't know. But why tempt fate.

You're right, lets not waste money cancelling 3rd world debt that only changes the balance of things.

Lets stop out sourcing to 3rd world countries and de-globalize and keep everything in house... You're so, so right...

YYZ What does slaming a probe into a comet have to do with out sourcing or third world countries ? Did you read the thread ?

There is apparently some controversy over the compositon of comets which has a direct bearing on our knowledge of the universe. The copper projectile was smashed into it to solve that question. NASA has become nothing but an ideological tool of the elitists, so why are they bothering. They will probably doctor any new or differing evidence to tailor it to what they have been saying all along - that comets are dirty snowballs as opposed to radical new theories that posit that they are highly energetic objects, if they are, the beaker heads have to go back to the drawing board.
