We are seeking an experienced, safety and service oriented seaplane pilot to fly a DHC-2 aircraft based in Vancouver/Richmond, flying scheduled and charter flights in the Southern British Columbia Coastal Regions on a Full Time, Seasonal basis.

Yes it sounds like they will be hiring more seasonal pilots from now on. All based in Vancouver/Richmond.

That has been the trend for the last couple of years here on the coast. Hire on seasonal drivers from march or april til end of september to cover all of the tours, charters and increased loads on scheds that the summer brings. The other operators here have been doing the same.

Yes the Beaver positions are seasonal. At least they are being up front about it. HA is still a very well managed and run airline.

SundayDriver, was it 8 or 9 that were laid off in september? Any idea how many are coming back? Not including the few that were made 'casual' employees through the winter?

I don't remember exactly how many were laid off. 9 that I can remember off the top of my head. 0 that I know of are coming back.

0 returning is no surprise.
After all, HA was known to be a "destination airline" so to speak. Who would want a seasonal float gig in the most expensive city in Canada, making half the wage anywhere else? The big draw for HA used to be that it was a great outfit, and hired most of its drivers year round - full time.

Still a good outfit - maybe. It's just a shame they're trying to adopt a more seasonal employment term. Reminds me a bit more of a WCA style of management than anything else.

Also, the current ad is their second ad in a months time looking for -2 driver. The ad on the company's website didn't state seasonal. Full time is all. In the past, if it was anything other than full time, HA would advertise it as part time. Again, a subtle difference, but still somewhat misleading.

From what I understand "full time seasonal" just means you are guaranteed the 74 hours every 2 weeks. Part time pilots may still be seasonal but they are not guaranteed to get any shifts.

It has been reposted a third time. Are they simply not getting applicants? Are the applicants well below the experience requirements? Or is there something else going on here?

For the record, I know of a couple of people who have applied (meet all the requirements) and have not been contacted..

I would expect the selected applicants found they could earn more with more job security pretty much anywhere. Mix that with cost of living why would someone want to come here!
