Post by Mitch Cronin »

Could it be that a couple of TC folks were out fishing when Cat happened to come along? :D:D:D

I would at least have picked up a load of water and sunk their boat. :D

I used to fly that very airplane back in the 70's, it's a Super Cat belonged to Slafley down in Moses Lake Wa.

Neat bit of film, the start of Always.

Kennyr :

I am not realy sure how many hours I have on Cats, somewhere between 4500 and 5000 after a while hours don't mean much.

But I have flown them in the in the all of the oceans of the world except the Antarctic.

Next you will be wanting to know how many jails I've been in. :D :D

Griffon, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and its just my opinion, but I have always loved the PBY and all she stood for during the big conflict. There are many many aircrew personnel that owe her a huge debt of gratitude for finding them and then landing to pick them up in seas that you would not believe!

Mind you, shes not as sexy as the "whistling chicken-leg"!

Griffon ;

The Cat is very heavy on the controls in the air, something like flying a full cement mixer.

On the water they can be a real handful in some conditions, and are very attitude critical in any conditions on the water.

I am writing an article for a British flying magazine ( Todays Pilot )describing how to fly a Cat.

If the magazine agrees I will add the article to my web site then everyone can read it.

I have flown many aircraft over the years and the Cat is the most demanding as far as flying skills goes.

As an interesting note, each engine oil tank holds 55 Imperial gallons of oil for a total weight of 990 pounds just in oil.

Full fuel is 1458 Imperial gallons .. 10,498 pounds of fuel. With careful power handling you can stay in the air for 21 hours.

The longest flight I did was 19 hours and 10 minutes non stop.

Easiest float plane to fly...Twin Otter

My favourite float plane to fly...Beech 18

Most unusual airplane to fly...Airbus A320..

If I had the money which airplane would I like just for fuc.ing around in?

A Stearman with a 600 HP P&W.

Cat.

"<i>A Stearman with a 600 HP P&W.</i>"

Now yer talkin'! Pretty as a picture and I'd bet it'd be a hell of a lot of fun!!

I don't mean to disrespect the Cat... (or any airplane for that matter). I know she's been a fantastic work horse. It was just those "Sexy" and "beautiful" labels that didn't seem to fit at all... to me.

I was teasing you above there Cat... you said you'd flown it "IN" the oceans... ok, sorry, couldn't resist. 8)

Hey, Griffon no problem...

I have flown them "onto" and thus once the hull settled into the water I was "in" the ocean.. :D :D

By the way there is nothing in the air better than having sex in the rear blisters, if you don't want to look at your partner just look out the blister at the scenery........

Neatest thing I ever saw from a PBY was a mother giraffe and a baby running like the wind on the Serengeti plains of Tanzania.

Floating debris

Post by FSS »

Hell Griffon, I was gonna post that video, when I figured out how to do it. I just about peed my pants when I saw it and knew had to post it for Cat Driver somehow, you even used the write-up I was gonna use too! Of course I have a couple of names for the twits in the boat, but CD knows who they are.. or wishes they were... It would be a perfect end for them, dumped on a burning hell.

There are a couple that I can think of that I would not have pulled the airplane off the water, just ran em over....by accident of course. :D

Cat... I couldnt agree with you more about the B18 being the most fun to fly off the water. Ive only flown maybe 5 diffrent types off the water, but the Beech was definately the most fun (with the DHC2 a close 2nd)
Cheers
