Waterbomber question
Does scooping water count as a touch and go?
If you only do engine shutdown on land do you need a float rating?
Note: I'm not talking about moral or stupid factor, just curiosity on the legals.

These can't possibly be serious questions... can they?

Re: Waterbomber question
First question I understand, but I'm not sure to what end... second one I really don't know what's being asked.

1.) Uh,yes, I guess? Does anyone keep track of T&Gs? Why?
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

Re: Waterbomber question
Does one legally require a float rating in order to operate an amphibious aircraft only on land?
Most likely. I can definitely see TC coming after you for something like that. Doesn't matter if its right or wrong.
Just ask the Colonel.

Re: Waterbomber question
It's not a float rating, it's an endorsement for flying seaplanes, read it carefully. That amphib, is still a seaplane, even when it lands on a runway. From there, should be strait forward to figure it out.Boreas wrote:Does one legally require a float rating in order to operate an amphibious aircraft only on land?

Re: Waterbomber question
This is kind of what I was thinking. If it's an amphib that I only fly off land, it is a seaplane but it also a land based airplane. Would I technically need both ratings?goldeneagle wrote: It's not a float rating, it's an endorsement for flying seaplanes, read it carefully. The opposite could also be raised, if it's an amphib that only I only fly off the lake, do I need a land endorsement?
I'm not saying these are in anyway logical or practical, I'm just curious about the legals. (We all know dealing with transport can often times have nothing to do with logical or practical)
With the size of a 215, I'm assuming it needs a PPC so would change anything?

Re: Waterbomber question
Correct, you are, Driving. I do keep track of loads, more out of habit that anything. Never kept track of t&g when I was training or at any other time, tho..

Re: Waterbomber question
In Nov of 95 I was hired to fly a Canadian C208 on amphibs in Dubai, because I was getting older and knew that shit happens I didn't want to fly it across the pond so a young fella took it straight to the Azores then on to Dubai. All landings were on wheels and I'm sure he didn't have a float endorsement. Also when I flew a Twin Otter Waterbomber, all scoops were logged as scoops, not water landings as when loaded with water the GW was now approved at 15,500 lbs so airframe inspections, etc, were upgraded. A water landing was logged as such.
