twinpratts, I can't confirm on the guy you're talking about. But I interviewed about a month ago for a lowly position. I call the recruiter almost on a weekly basis with a reply at first that they were considering a momentary hire freeze to they'll make a decision next week. Near time to call them again and I'll bet you that they'll say, "We haven't come to a conclusion but we'll make our decision next week.".

I hear that there might be another new hire course by the end of the year, however you have to keep in mind they already interviewed for a pool, likely to be sufficient to cover two classes. So if you figure out the numbers... if they run another course, pool excluded that puts a course at November... From what I hear, their plans seem to be in a constant state of flux... so trying to guess when the next round of fresh new hires is going to be is not easy!

Interesting Novaboy - isn't the 2 year mark well behind many people these days? Does anybody know the actual number of new airplanes confirmed to arrive versus the number of -200 retirements. I'm curious what the total fleet size will actually be and at what point the 2 year upgrades become never upgrades when the growth stabilizes. Rumoured aircraft/options not exercised don't count! My guess is that date is behind us already...

Aircraft usage numbers are available in the quarterly report on the wj site
under press releases
Also the confirmed aircraft aquisitions for the next year
as far as upgrades...25 months and counting.
Still a great place to work in spite of what Blister, Baster or whatever he calls himself has to say
way to go Westjet

With adding 11 -NG's by the end of 2006, how many aircraft will be in the fleet? I calculate 63 which would be a net gain of 6 as of today (I think) = 57 mixed - 8 200's + 3 600's + 11 in 2006.
With increased utilization, I figure very roughly about 70 new hires in 2006 plus attrition. But the only thing that remains the same is change so I could be way off.

All it means is you now fly 93 hrs per month instead of 90. Almost an extra day a month at work. Hiring will be done when there is any expansion and or retirements. With such a young workforce, I don't suspect too much retirement so expansion will have to happen. It might. I wish you luck. Better get a good contract boys.NovaBoy wrote:Don't forget a/c usage is going from 12hrs a day to 15hrs.

Fltlevel. Not stirring any pot dude. I may be just a little misinformed about what you guys fly, I appoligize, but I stand by the rest of my thread. You have proved my point about retirements. You think 10% are over 50. That's not a big number and 50 something is not retirement. Maybe two will retire in 2006? Anyway, I think you get my point. As for the big expansion in equipment, are the 11 machines arriving not replacing the -200's that are leaving? If that's the case, that's not expansion. Listen, I don't care who dose the hiring. I like to see all those guys on the "street" get the jobs they want. Just because I don't work for Clive doesn't mean I'm against expansion at WJ. The bigger the better I say. Bring it on. So put away your paranoya and let's have a normal discussion.
