Licensing stats

Post by Airtids »

Completely frustrated with the latest abomination that is the TC website (c'mon Transport, if you want us to know how the system works, having " Licensing" generate a 404 error is simply not acceptable, and this new redirect to the justice department website for CARs references is absurd!).

Can anyone direct me to a historical database of licenses held in this country? For example CPL/ATPL every year since 1990...

Thanks.

I "think" that the information you are looking for used to be available from either the Air Policy site of Transport Canada or on the Statistics Canada site. Of course, the data might not be available anymore as a result of the Government of Canada's Action Plan for the Renewal of the Government of Canada Web Presence.
Stephen Harper asked Tony Clement to ‘significantly reduce’ number of government websites, says document

OTTAWA —Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s cabinet is planning to renew its government’s online image by significantly reducing the number of federal websites and creating tools and instructions to monitor social media and engage with the public, says a leaked internal document.

An advocacy group promoting transparency in government, which obtained the document, suggested it indicated a plan to control and manipulate information.

But the office of Treasury Board president Tony Clement, confirming that the document was authentic, explained that the government’s main goal was to make it easier for Canadians to find information.

Clement had in fact told a technology conference in November that his plan was to consolidate the government’s web presence from about 1,500 to six or fewer websites.

“This consolidation will focus on putting the needs of citizens first rather than organizing our websites around the structure of government,” Clement had said in the speech delivered on the same day as the U.S. presidential election. “Ultimately, this will lead to an integration of services among different departments and thus improve services by saving clients time and effort.”

If its any consolation the frustrations with the consolidation of services is just as bad inside Transport Canada as it is with users on the outside, and how about that Department of Justice website...

Yup ..... my dozens of regulatory reference website bookmarks are now useless ...... and it took a long time to get those figured out in the first place.

As an alternative, I've subscribed to "CARs Deluxe," and it is an excellent product for tying all the stuff together.

A tiny bit pricey for an individual, but for professional references, it saves a lot of time, and the search engine is a million times better than the abomination built into the Transport site.

I just converted to an FAA ATPL, and their website was a pleasure to use. I was actually pretty good with the TC website, but it took a few years to develop that talent! Now they go and do this: it's no surprise so many Canadian pilots are " regulations challenged"!

Anyways, maybe the folks at ATAC will be able to help...

I made a copy of the CARs website right
before the disaster:

Not sure if that helps or not, but it's nice to
be able to read the CARs offline.

The new Canada.ca

The Government of Canada is making it easier for Canadians to find and access government information online through its new website, Canada.ca. The launch marks the beginning of a transformation to modernize the website and improve Canadians' online experience.

Canada.ca is the new Government of Canada website and it will deliver continuous improvements over the next four years. We need your feedback about this website. This will help us improve the site over time and make it what Canadians need.

Why change?

The Government of Canada is transforming its website to better serve Canadians by taking advantage of new technology and making it easier for the public to search and find information online using any device.

Over a period of four years, approximately 1,500 individual websites representing over 100 federal departments and agencies will be merged into Canada.ca where information is organized by themes that are most in demand. Canada.ca will become the single site for the Government of Canada.

The streamlined approach to web is in line with international best practices and is consistent with how other governments are managing their online presence.

Timeline of the transition of canada.ca from 1,500 to one website by 2016, initiated by the launch of a renewed Canada.ca site in December 2013.

What can you expect?

Canadians will benefit from a more user-friendly site that reflects the Government's commitment to providing the best information and value to its citizens.

Going forward, the public can be assured that the highest standards are being applied to the management and procurement of web services and that security of information remains a top priority.

Canada.ca demonstrates the Government's commitment to improving access to information online.
