AME Licence Renewal

Post by arcticheliwrench »

Has anyone been able to submit their form and photo via email?

I will call the office in the morning and ask for details as there is typical TC vagueness and no details on their website about actually how to renew and what is actually required.

God forbid they have a simple form with instructions instead of "fill in the applicable blanks as applicable to your situation on our single general all encompassing form". For further instructions consult our website, which will be annoying to use. Also when you finally find the form number required, when you search for it no results will come up on how to download it, only the contact information of the clerk that can process your request to order a paper copy. /rant

Link to form.

http://www.tc.gc.ca/wwwdocs/Forms/24-00 ... -06_BO.pdf

Because you cannot save the form with changes to it, just print it off when completed, sign it then scan it for e mailing.

Link to instructions.

Thanks for the links. I downloaded the form and was on that page last night already. You can see how they do not actually really say how to renew your license and what parts of the form need to be filled out. I guess I will call the nearest office. The form does not say what sections are required for a simple renewal. The instructions do not say how you can pay or where to email the photo, only what to name the photo.

It just strikes me as quite in-efficient and needlessly complicated. Why not have one page on the TC website listing renewal instructions with a link to a fill-able .pdf renewal form? They must like people calling them to ask the same questions every day. Oh wait.....it is the government.

OK: I called. Here is how to do it electronically:

1. Prepare a picture and name it according to the following instructions:

"Digital photographs should be in jpg format, head only, square, no larger than 300 pixels in either direction and in full color (24 bit). The AME must ensure that his or her full name and licence number accompany the photograph. The photograph file must be named using the AME licence number and jpg extension. For example, an AME with the licence number 123456 would name the file "123456.jpg". The "M" prefix is not to appear in the licence number."

2. Fill out the form. Checking off the box for 'Renewal'. You do not need to include any info on your school or any employment history previous to the date of issue of your current license. Only include where you worked on the date of issue and anywhere else after up until where your work now.

3. Email the completed form and picture to: caopac-oacpac@tc.gc.ca (Note: this is the email for office nearest my residence - Pacific. Call your nearest office for their email.) Include your phone number in the email. You will get a call to arrange payment of the fee (I assume credit card over the phone).

Prior to mine expiring last time I was able to call in a credit card and email the photo, and fax the form.

The process did not feel very formal. The inspector was very helpful. If I was in a city with an office I would have just went it there.

I've done the renewal by email twice. All my other times were in person in the office.

I love this generation. Always got to reach for a gadget. :P
Well if the older generation likes to dive 5 hours round trip on their time off to go to a TC office, than sure whatever floats your boat.

Just an update: 3 month delay in processing renewals. The delay is in Ottawa, not the local office. Get your renewal paperwork in early!

The delay is only for the plastic licence (problems with printing them). At least that is what my TC office told me. You can get the temporary paper one in the mail in a few weeks and there is no fee.
I got my temporary licence in the mail 10 days after I dropped off the forms.

No Biggie, IMHO!
