I'll bet as leader of the Liberal Party of Canada, he'll announce plans to stop the destruction of such a wonderful project, and call for taxpayer subsidies for it to remain open until airlines can be enticed to move there.

Exactly Pie ..... it was a great Liberal "Red Book" plan but just wasn't given enough decades to really show promise.iflyforpie wrote:Of course, just like Chrétien did.....

See that Edmonton airport authority. You fix up the one in your city and tear down the one out of town.

Hasn't YEG added direct flights to NYC Europe and added AA one stop to all of South America. Also put up 10 new hangers in the last couple of years. None of which would have happened if city center was still open. How does that compare to mirabel? Now instead of driving to cyyc for the same routes Edmontonians drive 15 min out of the city.

The hangars were built to house the aircraft that were evicted out of YXD! It has nothing to do with aviation expansion

Re: Mirabel airport terminal to be torn down
Dont recall aurora jets being based out of cyxd. Shell didnt absorb much from cyxd yet their expanding. Schools that were at cyxd are headed to parkland or villinevue and they made up for the majority of movements at cyxd. Stars has added an extra helicopter and flight crew for the event that a patient goes south and needs faster transport to a edmonton hospital. Third runway is been talked about. And there is never flow. Anexation of the airport is happening the LRT plans ars being excelerated. Cyyc use to be ths only option for allot of travel. Glad to see that trend is ending
Re: Mirabel airport terminal to be torn down
Aurora had a hanger in the NW corner of the airport (morningstar)
In any case, i've flown into both airports as a pax and YYC has better connections than YEG, imo

Can you please provide a link or citation for this comment.leftoftrack wrote: Stars has added an extra helicopter and flight crew for the event that a patient goes south and needs faster transport to a edmonton hospital.
I follow the issues quite closely and it does not match what I have seen in the media (unless I have missed something very major) or discussions I have had with personal directly involved.
verification and clarity would be appreciated
Thank you

That helicopter had been in the works many years and was planned to come on stream before the ECCA discussion.leftoftrack wrote:http://www.edmontonsun.com/2013/07/17/a ... ch-chopper
It is a replacement for the MBB which was moved to another location
I can find nothing on line to verify it is an addition or there is a stand by chopper for the CYEG air ambulance centre other than comments in some of the new air ambulance centre releases that STARS could assist when available.
Can you assist with information to the contrary?
Thank you

Sorry I can't cut and paste well on my ipad.
It's about 10 paragraphs down as to have the helicopters fly critical paitents to the hospital.

Thank you for the link, I am assuming you are referring to the quoted section below, please correct me if I am wrong:

In my highly biased personal opinion
Please note the comments quoting STARS representative starting on page three (circular bullet points) as they are attributed to STARS representatives and specifically very relevant.AHS anticipates about five patients a month will require urgent access to critical care. These patients can be flown directly to hospital from EIA by STARS helicopter, located in the same hangar building as our new medevac base. STARS will continue to land directly at hospitals when transporting a patient from a community hospital or from the scene of an emergency, such as a serious car crash.

Re: Mirabel airport terminal to be torn down
My point is YEG is taking off. Unlike mirabel ever did. It's sad that CN wouldn't move their train yard so runways at CYXD could be lengthened but service for edmontonians has improved for international travel. 2 New international carriers and expanded united flights all just happened within a year of the city center closure.
Now anyone know plans to make the airport cat 2 compliant?

I agree and it is great to see, but the credit goes to the long term work done by Edmonton International Airports in promoting and negotiating the new routes while taking advantage of the hot oil economy to grow that sector.
The airline/YXD issue was dead back in 1995 and none of the new 737's could have used it at all.2 New international carriers and expanded united flights all just happened within a year of the city center closure.
My point is credit where credit is due (in this case the work of EIA and the industry) and accuracy.
I think it would be fair to say the YXD issue for most, including me, was dead 24 months ago (some more), its over and its past time to move forward on all sides of the discussion.
There is a lot of work to do in Recreational and Commercial GA to get back to where we need to be.

And just with whose money do you think Mirabel was built anyways.
