Flying AME Bush (commercial) Pilot?

Post by johnwa »

Did anyone hear about people being hired in the North as flying AME's?
Are there companies who are interested in people who have that kind of education and also their own aircraft to get around with a toolbox in the back? I am someone who could fill that need but I am not sure if the aviation industry in Northern Canada is as flexible as the US in that regard. However, I wojld be. This can be a handy combination for operators! Drob me a line if you like via email:

Last I heard, Summit Air (which is right in your neighborhood) only hired pilots with an AME ticket. For the experience you bring, you get paid and treated very well. If I was a pilot/AME, thats the first place I would be heading.

Do you really want to fly all day and twist wrenches all night??
Best to do one or the other imo....

I'll let someone else fix the plane after a 14 hour duty day....

I don't have the knowledge you seek in this matter but Northerners seems quite friendly. I suggest you pitch them a deal they can't refuse. Maybe even draw up a rough business plan with a friend and go visit (not call) every operator medium and small that fly into YZF. If you can afford it - how about flying to the Northern strips and meeting them ?

Summit Air's AME recently got sick of having the pilot/AME's run off to do last minute company flights, leaving him to figure out a job half done. Now he only wants AME's who don't know how to fly, eventhough the owner has previously almost always hired pilot/AME's.

I hope I can afford my own plane one day... good on ya and good luck !

AME-Pilot?

Hmmmm... Interesting. It is fun to see how opportunities may seem to wait for you but in the end it is harder to decide what to do with one's education than actually doing it. Thanks for all your input. I gives me food for thought...
