Dual time with ATPL

Post by Mooney20C »

Good evening,

I can't find the answer to my question on TC website so maybe i'll have some luck here... Can I log dual time when I fly a single engine with a pilot holding an ATPL license but no instructor.

Thank you

Will

Sure.

Can you count it towards a PPL,
night rating or CPL? Nope.

Can you count it towards an instrument
rating, a multi rating, or a seaplane
rating? Likely.

Can you count it as type famil? Certainly.

Does it count towards your TT? Sure it does.

Recently a PPL I know went up with another
PPL in an unusual type and I told the PPL to
log what he did - dual type famil. See CAR
425.21(1).

Obscure note: Decades ago, in the white AIP
TC put a note in, saying that a CPL or ATPL
could instruct towards a maximum of 3 hours
of type famil. This was carried through to the
AIM but was removed 5 or 10 years ago, after
we made fun of it here. There was no regulatory
basis for that note.

PS I've been issuing licences and ratings for
18 years now. My advice is worth precisely
what you paid me for it.

They can't log pic without à check with an instructor for the insurance... they need training on the aircraft before the check

Would the 3 hours get "them" ready for a check ride?

Now we're getting close to upsetting someone. The fact you can't log the time may not prevent you from learning enough to pass a check ride.
