Good day all!

I'm getting my self ready for my PPL written, and am looking for resoureses to study. Im currently looking online at the TP 13014E (TC Study Guide), and find that there are no references to study material in it. They break it down into different sections, but dont forward any information on where to find the answers (either in FTGU, the AIM or a CARS reference).

What would you guys & gals suggest for a solid study guide so I can get this out of the way!

i used FTGU (obviously, most of the stuff is in there)
and an app for my phone from canadapilot.com

it cost a few bucks but it allowed me to study during my commute, so I got maybe 2 hrs a day of solid study in.

The practice exam my instructor gave me was old (maybe 1998) from . .

It seemed a fair representation of the one I actually sat


apparently the board filters out the name of the place I got the practice exam from. So sorry can't help there

Pilotexams.com is pretty decent too. 1000s of questions that are similar to those found on the TC exam. I used it as well as the Canadapilot apps.

Would you take those references over somthing like Cul--hanes or other published books? Im also a very digital learner.

I don't know about cul..... as an option for studying but the practice exam ( for my recommendation letter) that my instructor gave me was from that book and I felt it was a fair representation of the real deal

I used pilotexams.com as well. I had a few issues, but overall it helped a lot. The references for the answers were often given as page numbers in FTGU. I was using an old edition of FTGU so the page numbers never matched. I had to use the table of contents, index, etc. from several sources, and actually read stuff, to research the questions. On a few, I disagreed with the listed answer, with CARs and AIM references to support my opinion, but it seems they buy the material from another source too. However, using their questions still helped focus my studying on my weaker areas and reinforced the bits I was solid on. I'd recommend it.

If you visit a local aviation store you should find many study guides. If you'd like I can send you one. PM me.

The online practise exams are helpful.

So do what I do everyday? Got it!

I went through the TC practice exam, wassnt extremely difficult on the prelimary look... but it doesnt refereance AIM or CARS or FTGU...

That being said, il go through it closely with some of the suggestions that have been passed down!

This is what i do every day, but i also flex my pecs in there too... Its the only way i can get throug the work day.

I found a bunch of questions that referenced wrong pages and incorrect information too (even with a new copy of FTGU). It made seek out the correct information and page numbers rather than just accept the answer as gospel truth. Like New_PIC stated, it was more of the idea of focusing on my weak areas and not sweat the sections I was doing consistently well on. I found it best to do small exams (20-30 questions) and make sure I'm getting consistent high marks before moving on. My attention span seemed to really drop if I tried to do 50 to 100 questions at a time.

the app I mentioned lets you select from which ever topic areas you want air regs, met, weight and balance, flight instruments, theory of flight and so on.
You can select flashcard or study mode and tell it how many questions you want.

I found it very useful. I have no affiliation with them but it worked for me. you can flag questions you got incorrect and go back to view the explanation.

I didn't find too many errors, no more than I found on the actual paper.

I just made a post about Density Altitude formula being wrong in FTGU...

I am looking to go for my CPL written and these companies do not have a CPL exam. Is it just as good to go with the PPL one?

Canadapilots.com has been pretty damn good actually! Pretty happy with the service. Hopfully getting the written out of the way shortly!

Hey guys!

Ive been using pilotexams.com and have got above 93 the past 4 times ive written it. Is it time to go write the written?

Ive been using pilotexams fairly exclusivly... how have others found it? has it prepaired me sufficiantly?

Hey HMV, I'm a firm believer and advocate of using questionnaires to study. If you are able to consistently achieve a good mark (good of course being subjective) on practice/sample examinations, you should walk into the examination hall with confidence. (Re: aforementioned flexing)
