Heard a lot of buzz about this yesterday. Apparently the pilot was arrested and taken away by Peel Police.

The pilot was probably trying to mug him, given how much more money the rampie was probably making. Seems like a lucrative target.

Heard it was a contract captain. Leave your tacky scab pilot comments at the door. It's unclassy and downright pathetic...

It will be interesting to see how this guys career will fair. I'm sure he regret it shortly after he swung.

Contract CAPT from Regional 1....... Aren't GGN and Regional 1 a single company now?

Classy. Keep up the good work.

Yes, they are mostly staffed by contract captains because they are having a tough time hiring regular captains. Must be something to do with the pathetic WAWCON Georgian is offering. I know who the ramp worker is. A long time AC employee. I hope he presses charges so this individual has the book thrown at him.

While I obviously shook my head at this unfortunate incident and do not condone it, I also don't wish any ill will either. None of us know the nature of the incident, but knowing the implications, this guys career may be on the line. I certainly hope he makes up for this but I don't wish to see a guys career end over details I know nothing about. Maybe if you were in his shoes, you might not wanting the rest of the world hoping the book gets thrown at you at the cost of your career.

I'm not condoning this pilots actions or his choice of employment however I have been very, no extremely close to doing this myself. I don't know this particular rampie, but from what I've heard I can see how this happened. Somewhere along the line ramp agents have developed this sense of grandeur and think they can't be replaced with 3 days of on the job training.
My short version of my nearly resorting to violence happened last summer when the we arrived to discover the aircraft we were taking for this first of the day was the same as the 3 days previous, no APU and no air supply hooked up. the internal temp was 34 degrees and after several calls to ops to no avail, we advised we would not board until air was put on. A few minutes later air miraculously arrived so we started the boarding process. The air was pulled less than 5 mins later and the temp was now 36, as this rampie was driving past I waved him in and he came to the flight deck where I explained the situation and he asked, " would you like me to put the air back on"? To which we replied yes. After a few minutes of not getting any better, I went and looked outside and discovered the air cart was simply placed in the area but not hooked up, I nearly blew a blood vessel and had the guy been standing in front of me, I might have gone to jail that day.
There were some extremely unhappy passengers and all we could do was apologize for their(rampie) complete lack of any professionalism.
I have many more examples but the bottom line is, this guy did what a lot of us have thought about and can only hope it happened because he felt threatened, from what I hear this ramp guy was in his face.

I am sure there was something that provoked the Captain to punch him. I doubt he just got out of the plane and did this for no reason other then the ram pie was standing there. There are a few captains that have attitude. But there are also a few ram pies that feel they run the show.

I'm hearing snippits of the rampie questioning an FA about her/his RAIC card and the Captain and rampie getting into it. Any idea if there is anything to this story or is this is just a rumour? I am NOT trying to start a rumour here, I am mearly asking if anyone knows more details.

Regardless of the facts, the Captain crossed a very bad line. He could have just walked off the A/C, called his manager and tried to get it straightened out in a civil manner. By striking another individual, he's taken this to another level and will have to live with the consequences of his actions. I get it, some rampies think they run the show, some CSA's think they do, etc, etc, etc..

May I ask what his choice of employment has to do with anything related to this incident?

Who here hasn't wanted to punch a rampie at some point. Their attitudes, lack of professionalism and for most, education befalls them as noted above, they think they run the show. Regardless that they make more money than some... er most pilots.

Should he have been punched, no, but again, he probably deserved it.

Yes he could have called the manager. Maybe the manager would have give the rampie a 3 day paid suspension and when all the other rampies get pissed wildcat like the baggage handlers in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver did a few years ago the passengers can pay the price. I wonder how many rampies will think twice before they get attitude now. I have also had run the odd run in were on the ramp I was threatened. It amazes me how many of them have attitude on the ramp but turn tail when they see you off the ramp.

Lack of moral compass.

On the altercation and this is completely hearsay, I've heard the captain asked/told the ram pie to get off his airplane and the rampie told him it wasn't his plane until he released him.
As far as I know they have nothing to do with dispatch of an aircraft, I'd have to look up type D dispatch but I'm too lazy.

If that's the reason it's pretty dumb. There is never a good reason to take a swing at someone at work. I've heard different versions of what happened that have no similarity to the above situations mentioned.

Come to think of it the rampie was right. Until the tug is released from the plane and marshalled away they aren't going anywhere.

Am I understanding that you believe Georgian employees lack a moral compass?

I believe that you understood him correctly. I seem to recall several discussions here about the atrocious WAWCON at GGN, especially for Captains on the CRJ. With a handle like "flying4dollars" I thought you would understand that; or are you going to change your name to "flying4ShineyJetExperience" or "flying4peanuts" or "flying4aNewHotplateSoICanCookMyOwnKDInMom'sBasement"?

My bad, I meant that the Capt could have called his manager/CP and discussed it. I know that the rampies union is very strong. Of course i remember that wildcat, when a few of their own were caught guilty. After this GGN Capt striked the Lead, I was surprised the rampies didn't do another wildcat, refusing to work any GGN RJ flights, or seriously delay every one of their flights.

Rampie is a guy working his ass off more than any cockpit crew: call him by his name, check hands, gently tell him what you need, don't gorget small talk and tip. You're golden.

Of course forget the tip if you're an airline guy, balance is unchanged.

Their attitudes, lack of professionalism and for most, education befalls them as noted above,
Since when does being a pilot indicate you have an education, do you have to have a minimum education now to be a pilot?

I'd like to *online* punch CAT. would the consequences be as bad as that of the captains?

I wanted to punch my sim partner the other day, right in the teeth, but you just have to say to yourself "serenity now".

As far as the rampie being onboard, what business does he have being there?
