Difficult decision ahead

Just wondering everyone's opinion.

Stay working at a small company you've been with for one year, flying captain on a small piston and flying a turbine aircraft once a week with no option to upgrade captain on it before a few years or go to a well established 703/704 operator with a good reputation, flying F/O for a year on a turbine aircraft before moving to the left seat. Better pay, lifestyle, schedule and at least twice more flying with the new company.

However, you have to take a week off to do the initial groundschool with the new company and you will be called as soon as a spot opens within the next months and by doing that, you will lose your current job as soon as you do the groundschool, so the new job implies to be a few months with no job at all.

What would you choose???

Bird in the hand, and all that.

Don't leave a sure thing for a maybe, especially if your getting PIC time where you are right now and are otherwise happy.

On the other hand, maybe you got some time off/vacation time you can use? There's no need for your present employer to know what you're up to.

Good luck!

A few months could turn into several months which could turn into years or never. Until it happens, it ain't happening. There are no guarantees even if it's in writing, who knows what could upset the industry next, or when. What position do you want to be in if the music stops, sitting or standing?

My initial thought is don't you have vacation time you could take. My next thought is this new employer with a good reputation doesn't understand how workers are hired. You don't stick people in ground school till they work for you. This industry is fucked

Yeep, and I agree with all of the above mentioned responses which is to stay where you are at now. If it's not meant to be, than it isn't. An even better opportunity will come up in the future and your going to look back one day and say "thank god I didn't quit and work for those guys"

I have no vacation time left and I have already told my employer that I have been called by another company for a job. I thought that there would be no problem because he has a few pilots that could replace me and that I could continue to work while I wait for the call, but instead, he told me he would replace me right away if I go to the groundschool.

Thanks for the replies! I agree with all of you, it's probably better to stay loyal to my current company, maybe it will pay off one day, or to wait for an even better opportunity with hopefully no waiting time in the hiring process!
