With all the majors hiring, how's life at our northern carriers these days?
Are they too losing to AC or is it status quo - no hiring.
If they are hiring, whats the upgrade time like? Sched? and so on.
Cheers

We still have 4 27's, last group that got hired was for the SO seat. But there would be the opportunity in the future to get right seat ATR in YZF, dont know when though.
Allot of rumours going around about expansion for First Air but who knows. Within a year the 727s will be parked and 737s taking the place in the west and the east. At that point entry level possitions will be ATR42 Iqaluit and Yellownife as FOs possibly the C130 also has done direct entry FO in the past. As with any airline in Canada we are hoping Air Canada picks up some pilots to get movement happening again. Very stagnant for the last 4 years. I have 10 years in and still no left seat. Hopefully this will change.
Stuff will happen when the Canada Post contract is awarded I'm sure. I just heard that AC put a bid to move the foodmail How are they going to adjust to flying in the north??
It'll be feast or famine for First Air depending on whether they get awarded the foodmail contract yet again this fall, rumours of wide body freighters if they do get the contract, or cutbacks if they don't.....
The 767 that First Air was going to buy from AC is on hold............The reason I heard is that AC won't sell it to 7F if it will help them keep the foodmail contract. 5T and arctic sunwest have also submitted a partnership bid for the Canada Post contract.
Also heard that two "new" 737's were booked for their C check soon. (for 7F)
The deal we here about is for 3 737s and 1 767 as a package deal for food mail if we get it back. 2 737s will be going to YOW regardless of the the foodmail to replace the 727-100s. Fuel savings is approx. 3500lbs per hour so I have been told. We shall see. However without the food mail they will probably drop some crew from.
Its all rumours till their sitting on the ramp. Till then the dark season is comming fast.
I have heard of about 5 airlines who bid it including ACE and Cargojet Canadian North Air Canada and First Air for the jet routes. It is always up in the air these things. We shall see. We heard at the end of August early Septemeber it will be awarded.
First Air aparently has bought these 2-3 737s and they will be online this fall so says the memo. No 767 on the ramp yet.
What is the range of the 767-200ER? Anyone have any info on this? I heard that was AC machine to go YYZ to Tel Aviv direct is this true that must have been 11+ hours?
If CDN North does win the Food Mail contract, what will they use for aircraft other than the B737's and F28? I am aware that First Air is looking at more B737's and widebody freighters, would CDN North go for a widebody freighter? Wonder if Borek (who is partnered with them) would get larger aircraft as well?
Will be interesting to see what comes about once the contract is awarded.
