I'm getting mixed reviews from the instructors at my school.

Can I use a CX-2 calculator on the transport test for PPL ?

Yes, you just need to remove the batteries in front of the TC employee to show it's not storing any information.

Just remember that it can't do true altitude calculations.

Heaven forbid you showed up with a smartphone which I'm pretty sure everyone uses. I'm all for old stuff (I know how to use a slide rule), but perhaps it's time to get with the times instead of making everyone use this archaic stuff.

I was actually told I could take the CX2 into an exam once, but I had to leave the plastic cover outside. I think, in case it held a secret squirrel microdot containing the entire CARs and associated standards, or something.

Last month when I wrote my APTL exams in Calgary they took my E6B apart to make sure I wasn't hiding anything inside.

I have invigilated some of my faculty's final exams, you'd be surprised what people come up with.

I believe you can find a list of approved aviation "computers" here - https://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/ ... s-2011.htm

I've heard of an AEI who says you cannot bring in a dollar store calculator if it has the "M" memory function button.. Might be familiar to anyone who's gone to write a CPL or INRAT in Kelowna..
