Re: Encore pilots…..5 yr deal?
The pilot briefing sheet I've seen from Encore has pay information based on 80 hours. Yes it does say it's temporary and was planned to go to 70, but it didn't. And you've been getting 80 hours pay per month since day 1. Now that is 75 hours per month. 70 hours is a red herring if you've never been ...

Re: Encore pilots…..5 yr deal?
Encore has been blocking you guys at 80 hours since day 1. And all the pay info that was given to prospective hires was based on 80 hours. Now that's 75 hours. You will not come out ahead. You accepted a block 5 hours less per month then what Encore has been blocking all along. If you don't see that...

Re: Encore pilots…..5 yr deal?
And the company basically bribed you with 60 hours of extra pay before Christmas should the vote come out on the YES side? Was this a thoughtful vote of well informed pilots or desperate people that just needed the money for the holidays?

Re: Encore pilots…..5 yr deal?
You guys agreed to a 6.25% pay decrease. That brings starting captain salary at that airline to just over $63,000/year. And you're behind Jazz, Porter, etc in every working condition metric. That's a lot to give up on the hopes of going to WestJet in 6 years...maybe. New equipment and theme planes d...

Re: Current info on REGIONAL 1?
I see Regional 1 is hiring again. Is there anyone with updated information on them? Salary? Schedule? Type of work? The posting also mentions that the position is for domestic crew. Is it realistic to think that you would stay as a domestic crew member or 6 months down the road could you find yourse...

Re: Flying in -FZRA
If anyone is curious what flying in severe icing (possibly FZRA and FZDZ) can do to a turboprop just look at this photo Its no joke and almost cost this crew their lives. Look aft of the boots.

VOR approaches in NDA
Shooting VOR approaches in NDA with HSI running in Slaved mode. What should you set as the inbound track on the course indicator? I was under the impression that even though you are running in Slaved mode, you should still set the inbound course as you see it on the approach plate and not convert it...

Re: Straight-in approach inside the IF
I'm a little puzzled, is a straight-in approach from a FIX inside the IF but before the FAF legal? I wanna say no but, Thompson for instance; straight-in ILS/Dme Rwy 06 from the final approach course fix 'FALKE'. I know pilots are flying it but, is it legal? Lets not forget there is a mechanism in ...

Re: Fly-by waypoints on non-overlay NDB approaches.
just to add some fuel to the fire here ill go over an appch i did this morning flying into summerside pei i was cleared for a straight ndb appch via a fly-by WP (not an IF). my capt and i discussed this en route and we knew it was not a legit way to do the appch. so my suggestion to him and the req...

Re: Fly-by waypoints on non-overlay NDB approaches.
As far as going straight in without doing a procedure turn, some of you guys have to get with the times. From the AIM: ...to accommodate aircraft with modern avionics equipment and to improve fuel economy, transitions at some locations direct the pilot to an intermediate fix (IF) on the final appro...

Re: Fly-by waypoints on non-overlay NDB approaches.
So far as I can tell, the only things you need to conduct a straight in approach are a means of ascertaining wind direction and confirmation that the runway is clear That is the requirement for a straight in landing, not a straight in approach. Refer to AIM RAC 9.16 for Straight in Approach informa...

Re: Fly-by waypoints on non-overlay NDB approaches.
Plus, if you had a GPS, why the hell would you shoot the NDB approach? There are still some operator that are not certified for a GPS approach and still do NDB approaches on a very regular basis. Now you can say thats not acceptable, and I agree with you to a certain degree, but aircraft equipment,...

Re: Fly-by waypoints on non-overlay NDB approaches.
Ok I understand the will to un-complicate the approach. So are you saying that the waypoint is there to allow you to fly a visual approach in from that point if weather permits? Its my understanding that you couldn't fly to that point and execute a straight in IFR approach. I know that a lot of guys...

Fly-by waypoints on non-overlay NDB approaches.
I am looking for some information regarding some NDB approaches. On some stand alone NDB approaches there are fly-by waypoints on the inbound/outbound track. For instance I am currently looking at the NDB RWY 33 TRUE in Arviat. Is this waypoint there so you can initiate the procedure turn without ha...
