Those crappy airplanes are the ones you want to learn in. Listening to the wind whistle through all the cracks and holes will give you a better "feel" for the airplane. :D

A short cut could be to earn an airplane Private Pilots License. Something like 15 hours of fixed wing flight time can be counted towards the private helicopter license. Personally I wouldn't spend the money on Commercial heli flight training. Employers want high time pilots to fly their complex and...

Millennium Aviation in Saskatoon is a pretty good FTU. I earned my private license there flying a Cessna 150. There is free ground school Thursday nights at their hanger. If you're ever in the area stop by maybe I'll see you there. Happy Flying!
