YVR/ZBB - Free Leather Jepp Binders & other Aviation stuff

Hey, All... We've got about 6 or 7 leather Jepp binders, as well as a few manual (Turbine Pilot's Manual, Cathay/Emirates Interview Guides, etc.) and 1 or 2 E6B's that are taking up space in the garage. There's a few other manuals that may be of interest. Call/text me at 778 987 7700 if you want to ...

Re: Does the coolaid really taste as sweet as it sounds?

From what I've heard about the agreement, blocking will go down to a 75/80 situation, rather than a 80/85 that we currently have (that is the cole's notes version of the rumour I've heard). Why would that mean an end to upgrades? It seems to me that with smaller blocks, upgrades would increase. Why ...

Re: Delivery/Groundschool 2009

I spoke with a tech guy last night who mentioned we're taking delivery of an 800 on Feb 12th or so, and there are 9 700's/800's coming this year. I'm not sure how accurate this was, but he seemed to know what he was talking about. This is a rumour network ;)

Re: WJ flt. 54 lands and takes off rwy 13 at YYJ

Ryan Coke2, Ya, I've seen that happen, too. It can catch a guy off guard. That's why I make the effort to go out just before push back, grab a ladder if it's there, and go make the top half of a snow angel on the wing to see for myself. If I can't do that to verify it's gonna be clean (this time I'l...

CCR, You've responded well to my post. I hope you didn't have all of those referenced memorized!!! You were right to question that, as setting takeoff thrust with snow on the wings is a dad deal. I take a look before going into position to satisfy myself then, as I'm not staring behind me as I barre...

I can safely conclude that you are not among the WJ professional pilots that I was referring too. Political spays is that an expression coined by WJ? Is TC aware of this new WJ de-icing criteria and terminology? It’s been approved of course? The cost of a spray is peanuts compared to the PR damage ...

Drop $10G on WJ stock today (in the $11 range), sell it in 6 weeks at $15 and make yourself $3G. Then go shopping for diamonds and furs. I'm guessing there will be no diamonds and furs under your Xmas tree this year. Well, the stock is up over $13 now, New Year's Eve. You're right about no diamonds...

Re: Westjet's New Destinations

When I worked up north, I heard some stat about how the population of Yellowknife doubles in the summer. I'm not sure how accurate that stat is, but I'm sure it's gotta be close. WestJet's service will be seasonal through the summer months, when the population there swells. I'm not sure if they're g...

Cell Phone Plans

I'm curious as to what cell phone plans WJ pilots have. I find I get raped while using the phone while in Florida on layovers, and whenever else I happen to be south of the border. I'd like to get a BlackBerry with a data package, but Bell is awful to deal with in this regard. Further, I'd like to b...

Re: Compounded emergencies

During a flight I had a couple of years ago on a Lear 36, one of the engine driven hydraulic pumps packed it in. We're not sure what phase of the flight that happened in, but there was no mistaking that it stopped somewhere along the line. There was no indication of this having occured, because ther...

CATSA folks tend to come across as substandard human beings, I agree. At an empty YVR security checkpoint: Me: Walk through security, with everything metal removed, except my belt, which I forgot. Machine beeps. CATSA man: Take your belt off Me: Take belt off, walk through, no beep. CATSA man, 2 sec...

Re: Pilots say they feel pressure to cut back on fuel

Small Pen, Avianca, crashing in New York, would've been saved by another 10 minutes of fuel. Unforseen arrival delays got them into that mess. That could've been a dispatcher who doesn't know that New York is sometimes a clusterfuck. Dispatchers pick the fuel amount, but pilots have the experience t...

Did anybody here write a letter to the person who wrote that article about walk-arounds? I meant to, just to suggest that he remove his head from his ass, but I never did get around to it. Re: What would you do?

I was a passenger on AC going from YYC to LHR. During the flight, a fella, probably in his 60's, fell and hit his head. He was bleeding. There was a doctor on board who assisted in cleaning the wound, and getting him bandaged up. We continued to London. Presumeably MedLink was contacted, who determi...

You don't believe anyone is a medical doctor until they produce documented proof of their licence to practice medicine. You're balancing that rather nebulous eventuality against a certified medical doctor physically examining a patient and correctly determining they require urgent medical attention...

Re: What would you do?

I see I'm coming in late on this one, I know, but it seems to me that following MedLink would be the wise choice regardless of the opinion of the doctor almost 99.9% of the time. (I find it amusing, by the way, that there's ALWAYS a doctor on board). It was stated there that there are all kinds of d...

kevenv, I agree with you that it would be nicer to know from the start what the final price will be. However, I also believe that it's important for the public to know exactly what the airfare is, and also what the taxes are. The taxes aren't set by the airline, so I understand why they don't want t...

Re: Westjet Nickel and Diming

The travelling public always seem to have the answer, don't they? However, the airlines know that they are teenagers, try to sound like they know everything when they really know nothing at all. To me, it's quite simple why the fuel comes as a surcharge, and not part of the fare. If AC makes it part...
