Survey work
Hello All,
I am wondering if anyone has information on how survey companies in Canada work. The spring to fall months are what I assume is there bread and butter but is it even possible for some surveys to occur in the winter months? Do a lot of survey companies transit a/c to the US for there off months up here in the north? Does all the hiring happen in the Spring only?

Re: Survey work
As former survey I think any time can be bread and butter as long as contracts are coming in.
I used to work pipeline survey and guys were doing 40-80 hours depending on weather through summer and winter.
Some companies may? Havnt heard much about that. The tendency is to keep the aircraft home until its on contract and then it's away.
Hiring can happen any time. Depending on the survey company they hire contractors to do the work and they just have a pool of guys ready. More full time contract work is done by full time employees such as pipeline and gas meter reading. Any time can be hiring time would recommend trying to drop a resume where ever physically possible

Re: Survey work
Most LiDAR survey companies only operate in the spring/summer/fall months with the odd rotation through the states to stay away from the snow. Something about the snow the LiDAR doesn't like. There are some survey operators out there that do geophysical survey with those big mag booms you see handing off Navajos and 206's. Those can run all year around. It's a lot of work flying geo though. Low level (-250agl), contour flying, crappy weather, running the equipment in crappy locations, good cockpit management. I recommend you have some PIC time under your belt for these kinds of operations before applying but send in your resumes! You never know.Clearprop913 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 31, 2021 7:54 am Hello All,
