Sadly I heard today that Wild Country Airways located in YRL has ceased operations, the doors are closed, locked and nobody is answering the phones. I have it from a reliable source that this has been coming for sometime, efforts to sell had been happening behind the scenes but the owner was unable to attract any serious interest from potential buyers.
I sympathize with both the effected employees and the owner, it’s a lousy deal when you put your entirety into something and it doesn’t pan out.
Another company closes it's doors...

Well I must say that it is to bad, however it has been long over due.
I worked there abit on contract this summer and it is no surpise, The guys and girls working there though,I feel for ya. We had some great times this summer while I was there, I hope that all works out for you.

bother the other factor was nac moving into redlake and doing sched
to poplar hill and northspirt wca bread and butter
once again private operator cannot compete against native owned
company(re your tax dollar)
Prediction within 5 yrs there will be a merger between the two

Last I heard, Harper is against it and will make it illegal.........so, unless he's changed his mind on that he doesn't have my vote. The company already had a new cheif pilot lined up before the old one left, and NAC does not go to North Spirit and Poplar in the first place. Check the NAC website! They only go to ZSJ, YVZ and YPM from YRL.

It is pretty shitty. The unfortunate thing about it is.. For us pilots. a lot of jobs are created by such companies as those that are native owned.. like say ..oh i dunno .. medivacs.. The ones that a lot of certain people abuse in order to get to the city.. Poisoning there kids or themselves. Mind yo unot all but a lot. So if w edeside to pull the plug on all this subsidy. we lose a lot of flying jobs.. But maybe the insanity will stop..
I have a sense as to where this discussion is headed, so let me ask;
1. What of the subsudies AC recieved for years?
2. What of the subsidies Bombardier recieved(s) for years?
3. What of the subsidies farmers recieved(s) for years?
4. What of the subsidies through EI that fishermen recieve each year?
I could go on. The point is labelling one particular group is not seeing the big picture. Personally I believe that ALL subsudies should cease. If your business plan is sound, your marketing is on target, your prices are competitive, and your customer service is top-notch, then no subsidy should be required. Business should be governed by the principle of "survival of the fittest". If your business can't survive without my tax dollar...too bad.

But i'd rather aid Farmers who supply my food oppose to Natives that abuse the system and abuse there children/family members to get a "free ride" into the city. As far as im concerned there shouldn't be "reserves" or "urban reserves" if you wanna own/run a business ... do it like everyone else. Get a loan, work hard, and get it off the ground. Don't ask the government for money, let it flop .. and ask for more to try again!

It's too bad that Wild Country is no more. I made many friends and had lots of fun working for Bill. At times it just felt like that place was cursed.
I wonder if NAC will have to pay $5000/month for leasing that leaky hangar. Does any one know if they were bought out or just gave up?

Thanks for the oppurtunity Bill. You have helped many pilots realize their goals without having to risk theirs or the passengers lives to make a few bucks.

It sucks for the people that worked there, but I must say it was a LONG time coming.
Was one of those employee family types of companies where everyone had fun at the end of the day. J.C. you need a job PM me.
But them going under had as much to do with bigger airlines as the sun does to what I ate thismorning. Unfortunately the company wasn't run well by any means.

Keven, the company was not baught out and it is unsure what will happen yet the game hasn't played out all the way yet.
