Post by Apestogetherstrong »

Hey ALPA, I hope that you actually deliver on your world class contract promise! I hope that your world class contract gets us world class wages. Just for reference, please see Southwest narrow body wages below. I hope you guys are actually aiming to take a stand.

And to get the hourly rates for these figures, x1.149,
so 368 becomes $423/hour USD OR $570/hour CAD

ALPA can't deliver anything if their pilots aren't behind them.

Correct

And some former ACPA Reps wanted to keep the contract for exchange for 2% raises

Thanks. (And really? That's blatantly obscene.)

So in total a 21.9% increase since 2013 over 10 years.
Meanwhile "Official" inflation is 29%, but we all know the COL increase is far greater.

Regardless, you've already lost a further 7% officially on an already poor contract filled with concessions.
However that doesn't take into account that the price of food for a family of 4 has more than doubled (Up 103%) since 2013 to $16,300. Or that the national average house has gone up 60%. Now, the latter is a biased figure that's regressive to pilots as, since there's no official commuting allowance, we're assumed to have to live in a base like YYZ, which has gone up around 110%, thus the negotiations must be made accounting for bases and not national averages.

Undoubtedly the actual COL for a resident of an AC base like YYZ has actually increased about 50-60% since 2013.

All this considered, a ~30% raise would simply put AC back at the baseline of what was signed in 2013, and I don't think that's the goal.

So, suddenly a 50% raise doesn't seem remotely out of the question, and actually, likely sub-par for the country's supposed top dog and Flag Carrier.

After watching this video, a moment of silence for all Canadian pilots. We are cheap labour and we are too cheap to do anything about our wages. :goodman:

Did ALPA Westjet get a North American standard? ALPA seems to over promise and underdeliver. (I still support them)

I just hope we have the numbers to vote NO to whatever ALPA reluctantly agrees to and we actually strike this time.

ALPA doesn't do any promising, delivering or agreeing. That's what the MEC and pilots collectively do. ALPA gives you lawyers, advisors, comms people, financial analysis, etc. Pilots do the lifting.

And this MEC is doing the lifting.

Most pilots are doing the work it takes. Expectations and unity have never been higher.

Look at the resources we are seeing from ALPA. We've never had a more prepared N C or better communications.

A World Class Contract is ours to lose. We decide.

In terms of pay there might have been a bit left to be desired, but the contract itself more than doubled in length from the arbitrated mess Kaplan delivered

That's a little pathetic for an organization that large to not have more variety.

Labour lawyers on staff. Many others on retainer. Nothing prevents an MEC from retaining outside counsel (i.e. merger/CCAA/etc).

Through ALPA I've worked with:
-In-house Canadian Lawyers with experience in Labour Law, Employment, Human Rights Law, commercial contract negotiation, labour contract negotiation, collective bargaining, arbitration, conciliation, mediation and discipline hearings
-In-house dual qualified US and Canadian lawyers with decades of collective bargaining experience in the US and Canada
-In-house US lawyers with even more Collective Bargaining Experience
-Outside Counsel that are consistently ranked as the best Labour/Employment lawyers in Canada
-In-house and outside financial advisors that specialize in airline finance
-In-house retirement and insurance lawyers
-hired advisors for pension/investment issues
-In addition to meeting with volunteers from other pilot groups across North America to share experiences and strategy on collective bargaining and strike preparedness and ALPA's safety experts.
-Additional medical advisors and doctors on retainer for ALPA

Not really sure what more 'variety' you were looking for?

When you are negotiating, you need leverage.
What leverage does ALPA have?
Strike, issues to hiring new pilots, pilots are leaving for other carriers...?

No, more like patience.

There is a mountain of work to do. It is progressing. The MOA ends at the end of May. Realistically if an impasse developed in June it won’t come to a head (lockout/strike) before September.
