I had heard that FO hiring at Encore was on hold til the fall (at the earliest ).
Does anyone have info regarding how many DEC pilots have been hired since May (if any) and how many ground schools are scheduled for the remainder of 2024 at this point?
Lastly, is the number of (internal) upgrades since May first greater than, or less than the number of Captains who have left?
Hopefully it all equates to a net gain in number of Q400 captains who are attracted/ retained, so the hiring of FOs can resume.
Thanks in advance,
TP

I am currently in the FO pool. I received an email a couple of days ago asking me to update my profile . Hours , medicals…..etc. It stated they were selecting applicants for a limited amount of positions for a Fall ground school.
Therefore , it appears a fall FO ground school is in the works.
FO hiring on hold: Yes.
DEC hires since May: 0(July list has no hires since April)
Ground schools: no idea
May upgrades: 3
Jun upgrades: 1
Jul upgrades: 2
Aug upgrades: 3
Sep upgrades: 8
Oct upgrades: 5
Can't speak on attrition. Last December's seniority list was 173 CA, 188 FOs. July's seniority list is 168 CA, 207 FOs. So if my math's correct we still won't be 50/50 by the fall even without CAs leaving. So I imagine pretty small classes late fall into winter.
I also got an email asking me to update hours and medical. I reached out to HR asking how many GS classes are they expecting. I was told there will be limited spots and they would let me know if I’m successful candidate for the GS. I am wondering what’s the criteria on basis of which they invite for the GS? Is it like that those who are in the pool for longer time will get priority?

Did they say roughly when we will know the result?

Keep in mind I don’t work for Encore but typically your time in the pool is based on where you score against other pilots in the pool, lower time will swim longer.

I would think it is, I can’t imagine there are many with your hours, have you applied at Jazz?

I have 1498 hours currently. Not sure if it would be good enough to get a call from them.

I honestly think that is changing, as you may not be aware, to apply on the Portal you must have, I believe 2000 hours, so when they take 30% of the “qualified” candidates, you would be qualified a lot sooner than many(80%+) of the new hires, essentially skipping ahead because of qualifications.
They don’t hold you back based on seniority, it’s seniority of qualified who applied, maybe consider it, it would be good if some pilots at Jazz could update the 60% status and if they’ve moved on to the 30%(post September new hires)
All I’m saying if you don’t get called for this Encore ground school, I would consider options because you’ve been in the pool for a while losing valuable time, worst case coming to Jazz makes you more marketable to Porter.
Does anyone have recruitment experience to share which applicants are given preference over others? Most job ads contain mostly about required number of hours but don’t usually say what type of hours are desired in applicants.

They need 705 Captains, do you have the hours for that?

so when they take 30% of the “qualified” candidates,
All it takes is one guy in AC management to say “nah screw the 30% we aint even gonna follow that” for Jazz guys to get fucked again. Maybe magically instead of 2 years they now “PREFER” you work at Jazz for 3/4/5 years? I’m sure you know AC’s track record of following black and white stuff written and signed on a piece of paper.
How’s that 60% flow grievance going? Ya thought so.

Hi, I do per 705 regulations but not for Encores hiring requirements.

Kind of vague but I’m assuming you have an ATPL but barely dry ink on it?
If true, Jazz tried this experiment and it failed spectacularly, now DEC is 3000 total etc.
I suspect Encore is the same, that being said, you are a great FO with early upgrade potential, so I would expect they would be looking at you

The grievance is moving along. These things take time.

Pretty sure most of those affected don’t even care how the grievance is going, they’re not getting their seniority back.
No amount of money can compensate losing 1000+ numbers

No amount?
What if it’s a million per? I mean there has to be a number

Whatever that number is, it won’t be the final settlement amount. And no I don’t think a million is enough, we’re talking years behind on WB upgrades and years of shitty schedule/reserve
34 captains (21%) left so far this year with many other experienced FOs. Several others have accepted offers but have not given notice yet. Even more are actively interviewing elsewhere. There is an issue at Encore and it is being ignored by management.
If you want to join Encore, understand that you will not flow to mainline and your WestJet career will start and end at Encore.

The 500 hours 705 experience prevents a lot of candidates from being considered. A BE20 training captain colleague of mine had they’re application rejected immediately.
