IF SOMEONE TRIES TO TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR AIRCRAFT
What do you do if a co-plot goes insane? And try to wrestle the controls
away from you. At 800 AGL, in clouds, at 2:30 AM, scared passenger, and
a fire in the rear cabin?
You can only do one thing - fly the aircraft safely to land, no matter what.
But the crazy co-pilot almost gets away with murder.
RCMP said no criminal offence here! The crown was unwilling to prosecute!
The passengers made statement to support my concerns. The co-plilot was not PPC'd and therfere not accountable.
The Canadian Labour Department ruled that the co-pilot had the right
to do what he wanted to do. He was scared.

I find this topic totally insane. Are you shitting us? of course there is something you can do. Just stop short of deadly force. Call TC. If you ever loose your medical for mental instability, you don't get it back. I knew a DC3 driver who was a bit queer,(no! not that kind!! like odd) who lost his medical and he did not get it back, even after taking his medicine.
The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

There are a few pilots I have flown with, that I wish would go crazy just so I would be able to beat the snot out of them.
Few years back, had a yankee private pilot, whom i was taking to a fishing camp grab the controls, cause he thought for some reason I needed his help.

Wrong. I personally know of an Air Canada left-seater that under oath in court, claimed to be suffering form post-traumatic stress disorder (as defined in DSM-IV) which resulted from the death of a friend of his in a crash. Transport just loves this guy, so no problems with his medical, despite the fact that he is clearly suffering from a disqualifying medical condition as per CAR 424 table 1.3(d).
Amazingly, he's a training captain at Air Canada. One can't help but wonder precisely it is he is teaching.

Theres your answer buddy. I guess if you were scared you could kill him and the department of labour would rule in your favour too. Imagine the smile on your lawyers face when you walk into criminal court with the Department of Labour ruling in your back pocket.eric wrote:

The Mounties would rule you're the pic and had every right to take a life if you felt that life endangered the safe operation of your aircraft.
Remember a non ppc'd co-pilot is nothing more than a passanger.
Mom was right I should have become a lawyer.
Free legal advice is worth exactly what you pay for it.

My thoughts exactly.King Air Guy wrote:Last I heard, you can't be a copilt without a PPC/PCC....what was he/she doing onboard your AC?

If a company decides to skirt the law, it can expect to be skirted by the law too. Roughly said, "what goes around comes around."
