Bond for US Customs

Post by Mr. Jones »

I am trying to find info regarding setting up the US Customs Bond to fly charters into the US. Searched on the web - no joy. Called US Customs and they confirmed I need a bond but they didn't know who to contact to set it up. Anyone have any info on this?

Thanks

Think I might have found my answer....Here it is in case anyone else needs the info.

To obtain an International Carrier bond, you must contact an approved Surety that writes CBP bonds on a CBP Form 301. You can obtain a list of approved sureties on Treasury's Financial Management Service's Web site at http://www.fms.treas.gov - the list is identified as Circular 570. Only 1 bond is required and will cover operations at all ports of entry. The bond can be filed with the port most commonly used by the carrier.

The bond can be set-up through your insurance provider, it's the FAA that requires the bond. If you blow an altitude, depart without an outbound clearance from CBP etc the FAA grabs the cash. Very efficient way of getting the fine paid...can't operate legally without the bond, guilty until you prove yourself innocent.
