Election Predictions.

Post by North Shore »

I'm going out on a limb to say: Tory Minority, with Libs, NDP and BQ bringing up the rear, Greens shut out again (Roughly, give or take a few, the same seat distribution as last time). Possibility of a Lib/NDP coalition if Harper decides that he can't govern effectively with the results similar to the last parliament.
WHY? No-one really landed a knockout punch, and so we are left with the "No-one trusts Harper, Dion is weak, and Jack is a non-starter for PM" mentality that has prevailed for the last ?12 months.. thus the same results as last time, and $300 mill of our collective money down the drain..

Not looking for the usual Dion/Harper/Jack sucks comments here, just what you think is going to happen.

Well my question is if that is the case will Harper feel he can not govern properly and go to the GG for another premature election?

Depending on what happens in the first couple of weeks I can see a non confidedence vote being introduced forcing the Conservatives into forming a coalition with one of the other top parties. I found it really hard to make my vote this time opting to vote against the Conservatives rather than for a party. I find canadian politics sadly lacking right now.

I'll say the Liberals and NDP putting together a coalition. The Liberals will ride out the economic storm. They won't really do anything effective. Then when the economy begins to turn around they will claim victory and attempt to write history to portray the 2008 economic collapse as the fault of the Conservatives.

I'm hoping Conservative, since they have the most aviation friendly platform. Harper gets blasted for wanting to fork over millions to oil companies, but guess what...thats the only way to keep the cost of oil\fuel\pretty much everything to a reasonable level within Canada, And thats what the government is supposed to be doing. I'd rather they spend my tax money then have to spend money out of my own pocket.
Along the same lines, Dion's carbon tax is a F###ing joke. The minute you start yanking money out of the big carbon producers (ie oil companies\consumers for the large part), the same minute the corporate big wigs are hiking up their prices to keep their wallets just as full, which screws us all over. If Dion wants to keep food off my table and money out of my pocket just so he can save a few trees, he can go fornicate himself.

Harper has pledged $200 million to the aerospace industry over 4 year. Along with the fact that he wants to cut taxes on aviation fuels, I personally think that he is the lesser of the evils, but by no means the perfect PM.

Yeah I'm hoping for Conservative too for the same reason.

And as much as everyone thinks Harper is making Canada the 51st state, the Liberals pretty much already did that with the sorry lack of funds, equipment, and respect to our military.

Conservative minority, Liberals losing seats to the NDP but still the official opposition, Bloc & Green don't really matter. How else can it turn out? And Bandaid, who in the world is going to form a coalition with the Torys?

I think Harper will be sitting on a very hot seat for the next year or two. The economy is going to get worse before it gets better and the libs and NDP will jump at any opportunity to test the fates again once a bit of a cooling off period has passed and they can convince Canada it's time to hit the polls again.

The NDP will probably improve from this election and if the libs can use the setback to get a competent leader it wouldn't take much to remove the cons and put in a lib minority. There's just such a big hate on for blue and Harper in this country so many people seem to be desperate for a solid plan on how to not vote conservative effectively.

I'm not really looking forward to more pork barrel bills in the commons because to get anything done everyone needs a cookie. Ugh.

Agree. Their's two things I like about the American system.

1 - Basically a bi-party system, somebody has to have a majority in congress, thus bills should get pushed through, things get accomplished. Mostly a good thing but sometimes bad.

2 - The president & the majority in congress don't have to be from the same party. Why can we not do this too?
