Low Pass
Stolen from another forum but cool enough to share. Doesn't look like a F-18 though. (If it has been posted already, pardon me.)

Re: Low Pass
Definitely looks like its one of the Dassault fighters. You can see the refueling probe stuck out there, but I can't tell if it's the F1 or not.

Re: Low Pass
I'm 100% certain it's an F1.
The IFR (in flight refueling) Probe is on the right side of the jet. On the Harrier, it's on the left (And I don't think the would take off with the probe extended. On the F1, it's not retractable). Plus, I don't think the Harrier can carry belly tanks.

Re: Low Pass
Too small for the F-111. That looks like a single seat or a front/back style. The 111 was side by side. See: http://www.aerospaceweb.org/aircraft/bo ... 111_03.jpg_vti wrote:you guys sure it isnt an F-111 Ardvark ?

Re: Low Pass
Looking more at it, I think that it is the F1. It doesn't have the delta wing like so many of Dassaults other fighters, and the hardpoints match where they should be on the F1. The rounded air intakes and the fixed (I doubt it's retractable as they would have had it in for the low/fast pass) refueling probe just seem to say F1!

Re: Low Pass
OK - I've had a second good look here..
The giveaway that it's not a Harrier is that there is no anhedral to the horizontal stab.

Re: Low Pass
It is a McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) United States Marine Corps AV-8B II Harrier Jump Jet.
There are currently 99 of the 200 USMC Harriers still in active service,
split between 7 attack squadrons and 1 training squadrons.
VMA-211 Wake Island Avengers, VMA-214 The Black Sheep
VMA-311 Tomcats, VMA-513 Flying Nightmares based at Yuma MCAS
(hence the desert in the video) and
VMA-223 Bulldogs, VMA-231 Ace of Spades,
VMA-542 Tigers, and training squadron VMAT-203 Hawks
based at MCAS Cherry Point NC.

Re: Low Pass
How do you explain the probe on the right and the belly tank?robbreid wrote:It is a McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) United States Marine Corps AV-8B II Harrier Jump Jet.

Re: Low Pass
The video has been reversed and edited to make it look like an F1.
Seriously, only the French are that crazy.

Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?
Re: Low Pass
It's true, the french are a bit crazy. IF that was a Harrier, you would need to see an anhedral horizontal stab (which you don't), the fueling probe on the right (which it's not), and perhaps no belly tank (which there is. Little hard to have a belly tank where you gear comes down...
).

Re: Low Pass
USN Stark well unfortunately I'm not the only one who can't spot a F-1 Mirage. (My military friends tell me its an F-1, doh!!!).
I had a friend who was a US Marine Sergeant during the first Gulf War, he was assigned to a Hawk missile team,
3 Hawk missiles, 3 guys, middle of nowhere Saudi Arabia - for 6 months sitting beside an oil tank!!
They were told under no circumstances lock onto any American aircraft.
In 6 months, only one aircraft came by, they locked on, but decided not to shoot - because they couldn't decide
what it was!! So my friend took 4 photos of it as it passed directly over them.
Nice shots of a USAF B1-B Lancer.

The French do seem to take the cake in the crazy stuff department.
